From the 1974-75 season until they split into two classes in 1992, Section 2 was a combination of Duluth area, St Cloud and North Metro schools. The DECC and the Coliseum had the semis and finals on a mainly rotating basis. Once the split occured in the 1992-93 season, Duluth and Cloquet rejoined Section 7 (where they had been prior to the 74-75 season).mulefarm wrote:When was the first year that metro teams were in 7? Forest Lake was the first "southern" team to join Section 7AA, in the 1993-94 season. St Francis joined in 1995-96, Elk River in 1997-98, Cambridge in 2001-02, Andover in 2005-06, Princeton last season. Northern Lakes was in it for a year or two, Anoka was in it for a couple years, Brainerd for several years.

ER did have a hiatus for awhile as they bounced around a bit.east hockey wrote:From the 1974-75 season until they split into two classes in 1992, Section 2 was a combination of Duluth area, St Cloud and North Metro schools. Yeah, I think they were in 8AA, then 7AA, then 4AA and then back to 7AA. Something like that. In 4AA the year they won state, as I recall.EREmpireStrikesBack wrote:ER did have a hiatus for awhile as they bounced around a bit.east hockey wrote:From the 1974-75 season until they split into two classes in 1992, Section 2 was a combination of Duluth area, St Cloud and North Metro schools. section 7AA location
I heard that if Duluth loses today to Andover the finals are going to be held at the coliseum on Thursday night.

I don't think that will happen, but it could. Hermantown should move up to AA, they have a deep program as far as I'm concerned. I'm not trying to get a heated debate going or anything. I just think they have accomplished enough at the A level and should highly consider opting up. If they win the state championship this year what is the point of staying in single A? The additions of Duluth Denfeld and Hermantown to 7AA would be great for the northern half of the state. Andover and Elk River would then be out of the section and the northland would be represented in 7AA basically every year.

And that was the best hockey game I've ever seen. This final was held at the Hibbing Memorial Arena between Elk River and Hibbing. Paul Martin was d for the Elks and Travis Webber was goalie for Hibbing. 3 OT's and the Memorial was as full as I've seen it. I'd love to see some 7AA games come back to Hibbing. I always enjoy watching East and Rapids and Elk River in playoff hockey.greyhoundfan wrote:in the entire history of section 7AA, a metro team has won the section once (Elk River, 1999). Thats why the tournament is held up north.
In 2001, Cloquet and Greenway played a barn burner their too. Of course Cloquet lost but I agree Hibbing is a great place to watch hockey.gophers101 wrote:And that was the best hockey game I've ever seen. Hibbing used to always be a fun day. Drive up, watch East win, go to Sammy's after the game.BigWorm wrote:In 2001, Cloquet and Greenway played a barn burner their too.
