The Hockey Hub article pretty much nails it.
Wide-open. Some teams falling, some teams climbing.
Should be a really fun playoff run for someone.

Worthington was up on Luverne 5-3 in the third.
Now tied at 5 late.

Final
Luverne 6 Worthington 5

Shots -
Luverne 31
Worthington 12

At one time Worthington had 4 goals on 5 shots.

Sleepy Eye vs Fairmont rescheduled til tonight due to weather.

As for the Luverne game, I think the Cardinal fans pretty much feel they escaped with the win and are gracious to the refs for allowing a goal when the net was dislodged. It was obvious to many in the arena that the Worthington net was off in the second period when the score was 3-1. Worthington still bears some responsibility as they were up a couple with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game only to allow 3 goals, the game winning goal was scored against them when they have a 5 on 3 power play. In all fairness, this game should have went to overtime. The better team did win the game, but I'm not so sure they deserved the win. Good Luck to Luverne against Redwood, you are going to need it! If you play against them like you did against Worthington, you will lose 15-1

Not sure if this is a well thought out statement seeing the teams that beat Redwood over the past 4 games.

Should be close Redwood beat Luverne 14-2 in the 2 games combined this season so im sure it will be much closer this time.

I actually see luverne giving redwood a run for there money the way redwood has been playing lately i see this game being a close one if luvernes tender comes to play and not let in 5 goals on 12 shots........

heres some golfer 5 logic...

Luverne beat morris twice this year, and redwood recently lost to morris so luverne is an obvious choice to win.
or
marshall lost to #8 ranked lourdes 5-2 and redwood beat marshall 7-3 so shouldnt that mean that redwood should be ranked 7 or better and could take lourdes? also lourdes played breck to one goal, breck is #2 so that means redwood could play right with breck.

Sleepy Eye Wins!!

Post by SWHockeyScout »

Sleepy Eye Knocks off Fairmont 3 to 1
Stellar goaltending sends SE into the Next round to face Hutchinson. For Fairmont after one of their best seasons in sometime (Including getting their first conference win since 2001!) and earning a home playoff game this a tough way to bow out. Good for the Sleepy Eye Program this a younger team with the majority of the kids coming back! Now they head to Hutch but this is a big stride in the right direction for their program.

To be honest...Fairmont didn't really earn a home game...

Congratulations to Sleery Eye after knocking off Fairmont 3-1 for their first section win in ten years ( they beat Waseca in the 2000 sections).
Gotta love the section playoffs.

3A Quarterfinal Predictions

Post by SWHockeyScout »

Well I am 0-2 as far as predictions go. But that’s what makes playoff hockey fun. Now we move on to the Quarterfinals tomorrow that big boys within this section get to play four games tomorrow night. After the dust settles their will only be 4 teams left standing with the dream alive of reaching the State Tournament here’s how I see it playing it out.

#1 Seed Hutchinson (10-13-1) vs. #9 Seed Sleepy Eye (3-22-0)

Hutch begins their Section 3A title defense tomorrow night. They are led from the net out by strong senior net minder Swenson. They will goo as far as he takes them along with the seniors who return from last year State Tournament team. They take on Sleepy Eye who as I said earlier recently got their starting goaltender back Robert Regan. With Regan in the nets and Tyler Braulick up front Sleepy Eye was able to pull off the big playoff win for their program. This one will be a struggle for SE if they are able to keep it close that will be a moral victory. I look for Hutch to win big and get their regular players a rest and allow their younger bench player some time for playoff experience.
Prediction: Hutchinson 8 Sleepy Eye 0

#4 Seed Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato (14-8-1) vs. #5 Seed Marshall (13-12-0)

LDC is my personal dark horse to win this section they have been my pick all season long. They have some really nice wins against some quality teams. They seem to have gotten stronger as the season has gone along. They are led up front by Adams and on the Blue line by Impola. Marshall has nice team they don’t have any real super stars upfront just a lot of kids who can contribute and make plays. They will go as far as their senior net minder Campion will take them. Marshall is hot going (6-1-0) in their last 7 games. This one should be a dandy two hot teams playing for their seasons. Should be a barnburner I will take LDC pulling this one out in tight battle at home getting an empty netter at the end to seal it.
Prediction: LDC 5 Marshall 3

#3 Seed New Ulm (13-9-1) vs. #6 Seed Windom (8-13-1)

New Ulm has complained all year that they feel disrespected well now is the time to produce. They have a nice deep team and even though they feel disrespected by the seed they were given all they have to do is beat two SW Conference teams to get to the title game. With LDC, Hutch and Marshall all on the other side of the bracket they should be happy with their position. They feel they are a superior program to all SW Conference teams so this should be no problem for them. They are lead up front by Fisher, Juntunen and Peterson and have a solid net minder in Burgau in the nets. They take on Windom who has really underachieved this season. The lack of goaltending really hurts this team they have a nice first line in Johnson and the Eisenmenger brothers but after that they drastically fall off. New Ulm’s Depth and scoring ability allow them to win big in this one.
Prediction: New Ulm 7 Windom 1

#2 Seed Redwood Valley (17-5-1) vs. #7 Seed Luverne (10-12-1)

Well all year people have complained that Redwood is overrated and they have fought for respect now is their time to step up and show us who they truly are. They are led up front by their first line of Welch, Hanson and Miller with Foreign exchange d-man Lyrvall and senior goalie Rebstock. They have a bunch of hardworking kids after their stars. Redwood has limped into the playoffs going (0-3-1) down the stretch. Luverne has been hot down the stretch going (10-4-1) since January 1st. They have proven to be a dangerous team however, as it looks like from the other night their goaltending is a disaster. You have to have good goaltending to when come playoff time. Because of the Luverne’s lack of goaltending I look for Redwood’s first line to have a big night and back on track in this one.
Prediction: Redwood Valley 6 Luverne 2

There is my predictions should be a fun night. I will be heading up to Litch for the game of the night in Marshall and LDC. Lets hear it fellow 3A followers get those predictions out there!!

This is a well thought out statement. You barely have New Ulm beating Windom but yet they are going to get 2nd place. How is New Ulm going to get by Redwood if you have Redwood beating Luverne by 5? Nice logic.
