I'm not mad that their A, I just maintain that they are Roseau's girly little sister, whether or not they beat them sometimes.

It bugs me that teams are allowed to opt up, but oh well
That's just because you don't like hearing about the town of 3000 moving up and the school that draws from about 3.5 million maintaining chicken status...or would you prefer cowards status?
No, it's because it ruins the quality of the sport. Taking the good, smaller schools out of the smaller school class takes away from the competition. If the couple handful of small schools that have had continued historical success all moved up, the winner of the Class A tourney would be no better than the 50th best team in the state with, which is a tier system (that has already failed), not a class system.

Look around the country. Often the best team in the state is not in the biggest class. Right now the 3rd best basketball team in the country is a 4A team in Texas. They are the unanimous top team in the state and from everything I've read on them I've never heard the phrase "it's too bad they're in 4A" or anything to that effect. They prove how good they are on the court, regardless of what class they are in.

There are countless other examples of good teams around the country. The MN state hockey semi finals and finals in both classes are another good example. For the most part, in most years, those 8 teams are generally all good teams, with the teams in bad sections weeded out. Well, if teams weren't allowed to opt up, the teams would be even better.

Oh wait, "hockey's different," my bad

Ha, you've never been in a private school I take it lol.

Wait a second, is Warroad private? How did this go from Warroad to private schools?

So, CircleTalker, you didn't like watching the town of 3000 take it to the big boys a couple years ago??

I really don't see a problem with teams moving up to prove they can play with the big boys, shows cajones.

I'm not saying all good teams should move up. I'm just saying Warroad doesn't have the goods to prove they should be spoke of in the same sentence as Roseau. And don't get me started on STA.

So here is my idea for restructuring.

Class 9A = Public Schools that are really big and take hockey very seriously.
This class includes Wayzata, EP, Edina, Minnetonka, Blaine and four other schools.

Class 8A=Public Schools that are pretty big and take hockey pretty seriously. this includes Osseo, Coon Rapids, Andover, and seven other schools

Class 7A is for small public schools that take hockey very seriously.
Includes Roseau, Warroad, Moorhead, and seven other schools.

Class 6A is for private schools that care about hockey

Class 5A is for private schools that don't care about hockey

Classes 1A to 4A are for public schools of various sizes who take hockey less seriously.

Then we can have nine state champions and even more arguments about what class everyone should play in.

UBG, you brought up the privates. We've heard the whining about privates a hundred times. Get over it.

I don't think I can answer...

A. I'm not from Roseau

B. Why should they move up? They don't need to, they'll just always play second fiddle to Roseau if they don't.

C Prove it? Holly Roberts entire family lived in St. Cloud while she lived with a pretty well-known Warroad family in her words "to better her hockey career."

Need any more answers?

If she tried that today (with her parents not moving) I don't think she would be eligible, unless she were to make the move before enrolling in 9th grade.

There's the art crowd and there's the hockey crowd. How much overlap would you think there is?

It does explain your rankings though...

I just had too.... :)

Won there section since 1996. So my question how many times can you win your section in 15 years before the state hockey knowledge gods decree you must move up to AA. Of course we all know that Warroad must move up, but what about the rest.

TEAM Section Champions since 1996
Warroad 9
Fergus Falls 7
Little Falls 5
Orono 5
Breck 5
Red Wing 5
Duluth Marshall 5
Rochester Lourdes 5
St Thomas Academy 5
Hermantown 5
Blake 4
Mahtomedi 4
East Grand Forks 4
St Cloud Cathedral 3

So it's the schools fault that she moved to better herself? That doesn't mean she was "recruited." Some people just feel it is better for themselves to play for a winning team to be better recognized. That's all I got out of her statement. Just because people move there to play a sport, doesn't necessarily mean they were recruited.

Do the people of Warroad provide lodging for all outsiders looking for a place to play hockey? Would the Marvins have opened their doors to a crappy hockey player??

I would guess that a "crappy" player wouldn't better their situation much by moving to a town like Warroad so they wouldn't. In fact, they would worsen it because they probably wouldn't get much playing time.

Not much of an overlap, I suppose. Though that booth of pond hockey watercolors they have at the state tourney always draws a pretty nice crowd.

I'm glad you appreciate the art in my rankings. :P

So...no??? They wouldn't open their doors to a lesser player??? I don't think you answered the question so I can infer that means no.

I don't personally know the Marvin's so I couldn't say for sure. I don't think that situation would ever come up so it's hard to say. However, I do know that many of the girls that do move to Warroad have friends there through hockey and that is part of the reason they feel comfortable making that move. I would suppose in that situation they would find someone to host them. I'm curious as to which Marvin Roberts was living with? Was it Gigi's parents? If so, it could be the situation I just explained.
