This looks to me a lot like the Canada/Russia game. If, unlike Russia, Winona can hold off South early it should be a good game and the longer it stays close the more I like Winona with Florin, Theis, and Moran. South has a lot of talent as well but they're young and quite often young doesn't translate into a sense of urgency as much as a senior ladden team does. However if South comes out fast and gets up by 2 or 3 early it could be a very long afternoon for Winona. At any rate it will be nice to see some new blood at the semifinals and the enthusiasm their crowd brings, South traditionally (what little there is) doesn't draw well for this game, I imagine Winona will draw well plus they'll get the causal fan with no allegiance because they're the underdog.

I really think that the Winhawks can pull off the up-set here

Its just a matter if they play a smart game of hockey and they wont wanna go down without a fight because this is gonna be coach Nadeaus last year at winona because hes sick

So im going to pick the Winhawk to win it 5-4 in overtime!

Unless South really lays an egg (like last night's first period) and Winona plays a much stronger game than last night, this will be a laugher. If Owatonna had done anything with rebounds last night, that game would have been much different. Winona's goalie gave up prime rebound after prime rebound, many right back up the slot. On the other hand, in the third period, Winona came to play. Winona will need the intensity they showed in the third to stay in this one, but . . .

I imagine the South boys got a firm talking to after letting dodge county stick with them for 2 periods. South will come out fast and I don't expect this to be close at all..

I was dead wrong on this one.
I thought South would be better and would win a close one.
Never saw that bad of a blow-out coming.
Winona had a solid team imo for most of the year.
Either they didn't show up today, or Lakeville is rolllllin'.

Lakeville's had some incredible talents at the bantam level for years and years, imo.
I've actually been surprised that they haven't had a serious state contender at the HS level. I'm sure splitting up cannot help that.
That's quite a line, SEHF - bodes well for the next couple years.

Lakeville souths line on kloos (soph), osterberg (fresh), and Harvey (soph) is the real deal! The freshman osterberg has a school record 65 pts this year, kloos has 25 goals in 20 games, and Harvey has over 50 pts himself. Kloos was out with an injury for a couple weeks and this was his first game back and he puts up 4 goals! I think they are right up there with the top lines in the state which is pretty amazing considering how young they are! They all have bright futures!

South looked like a different team than the one that played dodge county! Looked like coach webber might of gave them a stern taking about not playing down to the other teams level because Winona looked like they didn't deserve to be on the same ice. If south plays like they did tonight in the section final it won't matter who they play! They would represent section 1aa very well and have a very good chance to upset someone at state! That's all if they play up to there ability..

winona just came out flat. that goal 32 seconds in just really killed them from the start. its really sad that this is the way those seniors have to go out after all of the hard work and the great season they had this year.

Not sure that the bad start would have changed the game that much.

Winona just wasn't used to the speed South has and it was a huge difference. Winona chased South and ended up out of positon and South pounced. Winona's top line generated some chances and had they converted early maybe it could have been closer, the flip side was their top line was just flat out bad in their own end. Had they done what Red Wing did and not chase and just jam the middle maybe they stood a chance but they were simply playing a much better team.

As bad as Winona looked at times the fact is Century looked no better through two periods against North. That's just the difference between playing in the Lake and in the Big Nine. Winona had a good season, I was pulling for them they just ran into a buzz saw today.

I watched them play earlier this year.. that line is unreal!! The game seems to be in slow motion for that Osterberg kid.
