As for line depth, Tonka has 13 players with 11 or more points, EP has 11 players with 11 or more. As far as penalties, Tonka won't goon it up but if they do draw some penalties their PP is one of the best in the state at 90.8%.
Their PP is very dangerous. 50% this playoffs, 40% on the season.

I couldn't find the stats but I believe Tonka has more shorthanded goals than opponents have scored on them on the PP.

Eden Prairie has no chance to win this game, just read Tonka's press clippings. PLEASE, keep reading Tonka's press clippings!

Easy Shakey... Everyone's just giving it back to "Lakeviewing" who is viewing too many EP clippings"... 8). Everyone in the state knows both of these teams are good teams... No question about that.. My hats off to both for making it this far. As I said in an earlier post in 2A this game is the state 2A tournament in my opinion. Looking forward to this one as much as the 1A STA Mahtomedi matchup (hopefully)...

not saying minnetonka should run rau. Just be very physical with him in a good way. If they get a roughing penalty so be it...that happens sometimes in high school hockey as they try to protect the kids sometimes to much. Nothing dirty just finish your checks on him and wear him down. Giving him to much time and space and letting him just skate around untouched will play to his favor.

Since my prediction for the Tonka-Benilde game was dead on, I think I'll go with the same score in this game. Tonka wins 3-1, this time with an empty netter.

I just have a hunch but:

EP-3
Tonka-2
OT

Game winner scored by Rau.

Thanks Factmatter for being my wingman

Lets break this down. EP lost Leddy and a couple of solid senior forwards the dominated most other teams 1st lines last year. They had a second line that scored goals a lot of goals against other 2nd and 3rd lines. Right now EP's 1st line is clearly the line to shut down. Tonka's challenge is shut down EP's 1st line with Rau leading this line. Look for Rogge and Ericson to step up as seniors against Tonka defense and a pretty good goalie. Bottom line is depth. Can EP's second or third line get some scoring here. Both team have solid goaltending. EP needs to play three solid periods of hockey to beat Tonka. The second period of Ep vs Wayzata was brutal for EP. The team winning this section should be the #1 seed at state.

keepyourheadup wrote:I wouldn't recommend trying to run Rau. The kid is tough as nails, Everson tried it in the Edina game and ended up out for 3 weeks. Minnetonka has the horses to beat EP straight up, getting side tracked trying to rough #7 is a poor plan. Hit him if its there but you start chasing him he'll hurt you even worse.
I think Tonka will play their game and won't try any cheap stuff. They are definitely the favorite and have been all season. EP beat BSM (weak team - exception Meyers) and Tonka beat a very strong Wayzata team. Have to give the nod to the Skippers - it's their game to lose in my opinion.

Tonka 3 (including empty netter)
EP 1

Anybody heard if they are preselling tickets at any of the schools? Are the tickets good for both games (6AA and 2AA)?

I hate that I work till 6:30-7:00 on Wednesday. The one day I wanted off this week I didn't get. In any event, this should be a fantastic game. Will it be easier to get into Target Center rather than Mariucci? I remember people packed out the door last year and it took forever just to get a ticket. I'm hoping to see the third period at least and then the 2AA Final. Are my odds good?

Fantastic 6AA final... uhmmm... IMHO this IS the state tournament final pitting the top two AA teams in the state against each other. The state tourney final game just happens to be called the Section 6AA section final and is being played before the Tourney starts... I thought that EP should have been ranked #2 so this is #1 and #2 going at it. Should be a barn burner. I will bet the Target Center fills up on this one...
I won't argue your point - can't wait to watch this game. Their earlier 1-0 game was exciting. Does not get better than this!

EP has always found a way to win the big games with this group of players, but I think Tonka will somehow pull this one out. I think the best thing that happened to Tonka was to struggle a bit down the stretch. They will be ready and motivated for this one. 4 - 1 Tonka.

But read on the page "Today Target Center seats 20,500 for basketball and from 13,000 to 19,000 for end-stage concerts, 19,500 for center-stage concerts and 17,500 for ice hockey"

I think that EP has to worry about stopping Tonka, not the other way around.

Doglover, you have left Fred speechless with your unprecendented and positively shocking prediction of EP's demise in the 6AA final.

canttouchthis wrote:if i was minnetonka i would send a big D man like hesketh to just rock rau. I think this is reasonable for a wisco recruit and NHL draft pick to do to a 5'8" 160lbs kid. Not saying the kid has to do this with a cheap hit. Just send a message to rau who is 80% of the EP team. Who cares if he gets a roughing penalty this would change the whole game.

From what I hear, Hesketh is a big guy that doesn't want to hit like a big guy.
