Just saw that the Luverne vs. New Ulm game will be moved to tomorrow. I heard that New Ulm is having some Ice Show on Tuesday at the arena.

games still on tuesday, new ulm has the advantage on the olympic sheet,
and because of the ice show they will be on the smaller rink, should be interesting and
lead to a PACKED house.

Section 3A Semi-Finals

Post by SWHockeyScout »

Ok so we are down to 4 teams, three everyone expected and one that no one expected. This is what playoffs are all about the 3 favorites and one Cinderella trying to crash the party. The Atmosphere in Litchfield was great. Marshall good season man are you going to miss Mr. Campion!! Two Semi-final match-ups here is how I see it….

#1 Seed Hutchinson (11-13-1) vs. #4 Seed Litchfield Dassel Cokato (15-8-1)
This should be a great one. Like stated in another thread these programs have a long-standing rivalry. These are your two past section 3A Champions going head to head in a classic battle. Hutchinson is lead by a group of seniors who has state tourney experience and is hungry to get back. However, there lack of scoring could be there undoing. If Swenson is hot he can carry this team like last year. But we have yet to see him hit that grove. LDC has a great top line and they can put pucks in the net. The Dragons have gotten constantly better as the season has gone along. They were my pick earlier this year and still are now. If they can get some decent goaltending I will take LDC in this one in a thriller. Should be a great game either way.
Prediction: LDC 4 Hutchinson 3

#3 Seed New Ulm (14-9-1) vs. #7 Seed Luverne (11-12-1)
Well section 3A officially has a Cinderella in Luverne. I keep counting these guys out yet they continue to prove me wrong. They have had a tremendous turn around in their season going (11-4-1) down the stretch now. But Cinderella’s run is about to come to an end. New Ulm seems to be clicking on all cylinders. Three good quality lines and top end goaltending will roll in this one. Look for New Ulm’s speed and depth to cause problems for Luverne all night. I just think Luverne’s weak goaltending and lack of quality depth is too much to over come here. Look for another dominate statement win for the eagles.
Prediction: New Ulm 7 Luverne 0

Well there is how I see it. Lets hear it fellow 3A followers how do you see this playing out Next week is the State Tournament where has the season gone!! Good Luck to the final 4 teams.

I think this thread has lost some of it's passion know that Redwood and Marshall are done.

Good analysis SW, but I think Hutchinson will prevail with some good goal tending and look for Luverne to give New Ulm a closer game then expected.

NU 5, Luverne 2.

a lot of the noise in this section came from a kid talking himself up. think he still is but pretends to be someone else. The better teams in 3 dont seem to spend as much time online. Coincidence?

Litch seems to be able to find the back of the net better than Hutch. New Ulm should handle Luverne and than take it from Litchfield. I'd love to see Luverne pull it off though.

lets be serious - there is no possible way that Luverne could or should beat New Ulm. I am not a NU fan, but it would be a disgrace to hockey if Luverne beat them. They are no where near the same level of play, technique, or ability. NU's only problem will be to keep from overlooking Luverne and thinking it is a cake walk, which it should be. Sometimes it is difficult to play a team that doesn't even belong. Nu needs to get rid of some of their attitudes though - sure it would be funny to see them lose, but it would be a complete shame to the teams that work hard to play at that level. I hope to see NU win 8-0.

We need to get SREGIT back to put a little spark back on the forum, if its getting boring. ha! ha!

Can any one tell me how Luverne beat Redwood was it good goaltending, good defense, or three good lines. What was it just wondering.

hahah sregit got kicked off.... kid is a tard.

No luverne doesnt have 3 lines, more like 3 players (meyer, fitzer, dingman)... haha but its very good for their program to make it this far... goaltending.... is brutal for luverne both tenders are pretty bad and would play JV for any other team in the section, in fact luverne would have won a few more games had their goalies been better... but both are only sophomores so.. who knows.. seems like luverne cacoons around their goalie, strangles the other team, then chips it out for an odd-man rush.. But hey i guess that strategy made it further than anyone else in the SW conference.. so they obviously are good at their type of hockey...we will see what happens against new ulm... i say NU-9 luverne-2.....

Hutchinson is sitting pretty ! These boys are ready and will be very solid on D tonight. Limiting the shots on goal with a solid goalie will lead them to the section finals.

New Ulm did get a good draw in this tournament. Luverne is on a roll but they will give up to many goals. New Ulm will win this rather easily.

Interesting that Litch won. Looking forward to this matchup. NU has a chance to get a massive burden lifted off, and a shot at revenge in the 08 season.

Very good game in Hutch tonight. LDC's goalie played awesome, (very much like 08's goalie) LdC just took Hutch's key players out of the game, and Hutch's goalie did impress me, and thats what it came down to and LDC played better in net... Hutch could not score...

My thoughts on the game, and what will be key for LDC come friday: in the first neither team looked too good, both teams were rather timid, and a bit of nerve was showing from both sides. Both goaltenders played well, but both struggled with rebound control. LDC did a good job of getting trafic to the front of the Hutch net, and that helped them bury the puck. If LDC gets down by more than 2, I think it's over. I didn't think it was a goaltender who stole the game for them tonight ,etc. The Dragons power play needs to be better on friday, and they gotta stay out of the box.

luverne had no class during and after the game at New Ulm, they got cheap and the coaches even told there players not to shake N.U's coaches hands at the end of the game. No wonder New Ulm dosn't want to play them during the regular season. (absolutely no class) New Ulm beat Windom pretty bad but at least they had class.(lots of class)
