A Quarter: #2 Mahtomedi (23-5) v. Alexandria (21-6-1)
The last time the Alexandria Cardinals made it to state was 1996, where they finished as the Class AA Consolation Champions. The last time Mahtomedi made it to state was last year in which both St Cloud Cathedral and Hutchinson beat them sending them home without a win.
Both teams have played a very good season; the only Class A school Mathomedi has played they haven't beaten is the #1 seeded Breck and Alexandria went 14-1 in their last 15 games of the season/sections with their only loss an away 3-4 loss to Moorhead.
Good luck to both teams

Don't forget that Ben Marshall got hurt in the quarterfinals and missed the rest of the game along with the consolation loss.HShockeywatcher wrote:The last time Mahtomedi made it to state was last year in which both St Cloud Cathedral and Hutchinson beat them sending them home without a win.

Yes Marshall played against STA. It was in last years State Tournament that he got hurt.breakout wrote:wbmd wrote:Don't forget that Ben Marshall got hurt in the quarterfinals and missed the rest of the game along with the consolation loss.HShockeywatcher wrote:The last time Mahtomedi made it to state was last year in which both St Cloud Cathedral and Hutchinson beat them sending them home without a win.

Haven't seen Mahtomedi play but Alex has been improving all year. If they play 3 periods of hockey, I think this could be a close game. Looking at Mahtomedi's schedule, their only losses are to highly ranked A or AA teams so the Cards need to be totally on their game in all facets.
Looking forward to the game!

Hmmmnn...I think he was referring to best 'A' Team in the state - there is quite the difference most years!Gov78 wrote:Huh? Zephyrs by 3
I don't know much about the Zephyrs...but if Alex minimizes their mistakes and gets some solid tending they will have a chance...they will score some goals just hope they can keep them out of their net. Its one game with everyone jacked up - who knows?
I'll take Alex scoring 2 in the third to win 5-4...thats what I hope anyway.

gAre we a little jealous? The entire team is playing well. 1,2and3 lines are producing goals not like the begining of the year so go ahead and call it what you want, just come and play hockey against us![/quote]
Not jealous, in fact I'm ecstatic that you beat STA, I hope you represent CSC well in state!
Just a friendly quip

Zephs!
Mahtomedi will come ready to win some games in this year's touney, unlike last year. Hope Wohlers continues to play strong. That first session on Wednesday afternoon will be very exciting!! I say the Zephs get by Alex by a goal...

Well I have watched almost every single Alex game all year long, the thing they need to do to have a chance to win is they need to get a lead early, because they do not play well from behind, also them staying out of the penalty box is huge, they cannot afford to give stupid penalties to the Zeph's. As much of an alex fan as I am I still think that the Zephs will take this one 4-2 ENG. Alex will play tough, but Mathomedi did just beat STA which says something......
Well, Alexandria's team surely wasn't built on size....they have some speed and some serious danglers on their top line. They have been getting production out of their second line especially from Gronholz, #8. They should be able to skate with the Zephs 5 on 5.bloody bar down wrote:ALex is quicker than you might think.. I will take the Zephers, but not without a fight from Alex.. I'll say 4-3
I'd like to see them play a little firmer on the blue line in the O zone than they typically do. They will need to be on top of every aspect of their game to take this one. I'll take the Cards 3 - 2.
