Breck vs New Ulm

Post by Goldfishdude »

I didn't see a thread started... if so... I apologize..

Breck up 9-0... with 4 goals in less than a minute... Nuts...

Hard not to feel bad for New Ulm..... but then again, I thank them for giving us the Steinbach brothers for baseball.

A fourth-liner scoring the goal, I see no issue here...

Agreed, you don't wanna get scored on NU needs to start playing DEFENSE again.

NU's goalie played well I thought! It was pretty much 0 on (insert number here) the whole game.

Nearly broke .80 on 10 goals? That's pretty good if you ask me.
The only goal you can blame him for is the five-hole.
Always celly hard.

I'm just glad New Ulm made it to the X instead of a quality team like St. Thomas or Thief River Falls

This team got what they deserved. Watching the New Ulm defensemen let the Breck forwards easily skate around them when they put up 4 goals in less than a minute was absolutely pathetic. There are plenty of other class A teams not in the tourney that could have put up a much better fight. I like seeing blowouts like this.

Maybe the German boys from New Ulm are not up to your standards skillwise in hockey, but they won their section so they deserve to be there and they earned it. They probably don't go to skills camps and hockey training centers 12 months out of the year. They probably work 16 hours a day on their family's farm all summer. So they got pummelled by a modern day hybrid superteam from an elite city private school. That is life, they are still having the time of their life.

Just wondering if someone out there with some knowledge of the Breck roster could help me out. I'm just curious where each player played their youth hockey? Not trying to start anything, just would like to know.

I know a few come from the Mpls area, plymouth/wayzata, chaska, champlin, St. Louis Park

Thanks.....So for the most part it looks like they are coming from programs that are not state contendors year in and year out. It's not like Anders Lee going from Edina to St. Thomas

I think a reasonable guideline regarding private schools in A class--look at the students who make up the team and if more than half of them developed in AA size associations then the team is AA. If they were developed in A associations, then A.

I think that is fair.

I remember a post a while ago that said about 5-6 players from last year's team would have gone to Champlin Park otherwise.

As far as the game last night, it was kind of like Globetrotters vs. Generals out there at certain points. But it is unfair to totally slam New Ulm here. They don't get a pick of who plays for them. They get their players from a pre-determined area so to speak, while Breck can build a super team. If New Ulm played Warroad or Hermantown, I think the goal difference certainly would not have reached 10.

it could have been much worse. breck did lay off from the 2nd period on.

in the future maybe they could combine sections one and three for one big southern section

I didn't see it, but a friend told me part of this game was on ESPN's top 10 plays of day last night! Anybody else hear about this?

EDIT: Just saw there is a thread made about this :o

Breck could have had their 4th liners score when it was 4-5 or 6 to 0 not 10-1. It was totally classless. Totally.

As for New Ulm-the best is when they scored against Breck, the place erupted--loudest cheering all night including the Warroad-Lourdes games.

I love the comments of the 12 month all hockey nothing else for Breck---at what price? How many will really advance to elite levels? Hardly any

I do get sick of the private public arguments though. The bottom line is that the state tourney is always a thrill to go to, no matter what the school or the result.

Warroad dominated Lourdes and given Brecks classlessness exhibited vs New Ulm, I hope Warroad beats Breck.
