My final thanks and congratulations to the Pioneers for winning 3rd Place in the State. Coaches Lechner, Schafhauser and Ciro did a fantastic job with this team. This group had no superstars but played great team defense, had solid goaltending and 4 lines that worked together. They can be proud of their Classic Suburban Conference crown. This conference with STA, Mahtomedi, Tartan, North & SSP has become a very good hockey league. They added 3 wins over WBL to "the streak" and a 24th section title for the school. The Minnetonka game will always be remembered as one of the greatest in state tournament history. This team got better as the year went on. With only 5 seniors and an undefeated JV group, next year may be even better. Thanks to Jordan Johnson, Willie Faust, Jack Walsh, Chris Casto and David Bruchu.
I was privileged to see some great HS hockey games this year at Aldrich, St. Croix Rec, the Coliseum and Xcel. I'll take a $7 HS game ticket over the Wild and their sometimes weak effort any day.
Now it's time for Spring and for baseball. I bought tickets for several Twins games on Saturday morning. Thanks for the fun on this board. See you again all about December 1st.

Congratulations to Hill for a very fun and hard fought season. Even despite the disappointment of the Tonka loss, third place in state is certainly something to be very proud of.
Good luck in the future to the seniors, and rest of the program. With the strength of the JV program and 14/20(?) players returning, next year should be a good one.

You wanna know what is funny??
I have heard many "experts" do the Woah is me towards Tonka about not having the legs or being tired for the championship game, and how that affected their game.
Seems to me H-M was able to whallop 6 goals in the 3rd place game, with less recovery time. The better teams win regardless, eh?

Hey homer, take another sip for me. Do you think competition had something to do with it? Or maybe the East Metro All Stars are younger and they don't require the recovery time that all those Tonka "Seniors" needed.Goldfishdude wrote:You wanna know what is funny??

You need to keep in mind that AV has been playing great hockey lately, losing by the same margin to Edina that Tonka lost by as well, with a 2-0 loss. AV was outplayed, at least in shot total, but kept the game close.
I agree with Goldy on this one.
