How does a ninth grader from Apple Valley with 1 goal and 1 assist make the all tournament team?

It's not all about goals and assists. I thought Fasching had a good all-around showing in the tournament. I wasn't surprised at all with him being selected to the All-Tournament Team.DW wrote:How does a ninth grader from Apple Valley with 1 goal and 1 assist make the all tournament team?

I agree it's not all about goals and assists. But it's got to be a some sort of quantifable measurement. How about best toe drag?....How about biggest ninth grader?.....How about making his team better?.....How about most playing time? How about Mr Hockey? Why not him for all tournament? How about all the stars from Minnetonka who made it after a disappointing tournament?

Yeah because 2nd place in the MN State high school hockey tournament is disappointing...DW wrote:I agree it's not all about goals and assists. He was most definitely the "biggest" 9th grader, he got tons of ice time and did make his team better.DW wrote:I agree it's not all about goals and assists. Well when you were undefeated for most of the season and ranked #1 in the state all season long it kind of is. Not trying to take anything away from Tonka, they still had an unbelievable season, but I guarantee all their players are disappointed with the way the tournament ended.fivehole628 wrote:Yeah because 2nd place in the MN State high school hockey tournament is disappointing...DW wrote:I agree it's not all about goals and assists. Two points in three games against blaine, hm, and edina isn't bad and his play wasn't either. They only scored 5 goals for the tournament and the guys who chose it probably wanted to include at least a guy from the team who made it to the 3rd place game.
I don't know how you can doubt how Tonka guys were on there. Krueger was the reason they were in the finals and his play Friday made it tough to keep him off of there. His save % was 93.5 for the weekend. Not bad. Prochno was probably the most solid D in the tourney and scored 3 of the 4 goals tonka scored in their final two games. Holl had a goal and two assists but wasn't at his best. Holl and Prochno combined for 19 shots on goal and that's with very few PP's. Between thosee two and gardiner (Tonka stars as you call them) they scored 7 of tonkas 10 goals. Gardiner just led the AA tourney in hits, shots on goal, points, goals, and was a +3 behind some edina guys who were a +4. Mn hockey hub also had him winning 48 draws. Who would you replace those guys with on the all tourney team?

He, along with his goalie, were the best players on the only team to make an upset in either class. He was impressive on the ice. I imagine we will be hearing his name quite a bit for the next three yearsThe51 wrote:not to mention an empty net goal... im completely with you here didnt deserve itDW wrote:How does a ninth grader from Apple Valley with 1 goal and 1 assist make the all tournament team?

The all tournament team is for players who stand out at the tournament. To me, Fasching definitely stood out.
Sure you can maybe say some other people were also deserving. That doesn't mean it was a "joke" to pick Fasching. And if you don't like the selection of some Tonka players (though I'm not sure which ones), I don't see what that has to do with the selection of Fasching.

i dont know if im the only one who thinks this but i think its weird that no one from the consolation bracket make it. if knochemnues sp? got 5 assists in one game, i believe he is deserving of all tournament team aswell. his team won more games than apple valley did so i dont understand why they think the bottom four teams shouldnt be included in that.
but with this fasching argument i think he is good but not quite good enough to be mentioned in the same category as prochno, holl, gardiner, everson, or any of those other guys on the all tournament team. i also think that michaelson was more of a standout player than fasching.

Another thread proving no matter what form of human decision making takes place, there will be someone thinking they could do a better job.
Coaching, officiating, picking all tournament teams, and so on..
I would have to speculate the people selecting these teams watched all the games, and had some set guidelines about the selection process.
It's unlikely anyone but the selection committee took the time to watch all games, and without priority of their player or their home town.
Congrats to all the players in the tourney, and to the hard workers that were selected to the all tournament team!

IMO
Irregardless of all of our opinions, the reality exists that the next 4 NHL drafts will have Minnesotan as one of the top 3 North American players selected...lets just root for these kids, they're all special. And for Fasching as a freshman to standout with kids 4 years older than him on the ice, good for him. Great tournament to watch..

I could see some other players from 2012 and 2013 with more opportunity than those you namedjancze5 wrote:Irregardless of all of our opinions, the reality exists that the next 4 NHL drafts will have Minnesotan as one of the top 3 North American players selected...lets just root for these kids, they're all special.
