The next two goals just further demoralized a tired Tonka team with so much pressure already on them. The Edina penalty was huge for Tonka and lit their spark. Everyone knew they'd have to come out on fire the start of the third and they did not disappoint. Two great goals by Prochno and suddenly we had a hockey game.
After Edina took some time to regroup, they settled down and went back to playing very smart hockey. I think Tonka gave it a great last shot and they are an amazing hockey team with kids that can play the game-no doubt. Edina played smart, tied up the puck along the boards for the last minute of play instead of just trying to dish it out (brilliant hockey) and won the game in faceoffs and good defensive play and of course - an amazing display by their jr netminder. Tonka played very well but it was not their night and Edina was the better "team".
Congrats to both teams on an excellent season.
Good observation Dog. They looked exhausted right from the get go in terms of reaction time and foot speed. I also heard that both Gardiner and Frawley were still coming off extended illness.... kids aren't robots I guess... Tourney organizers should find a way to prevent this from happening again. If someone got seriously hurt you could have bet your last dollar someone would be pulling the "lawsuit" card... Congrats to Edina for capitalizing.

If teams are seeded shouldn't the #1 seed play the early game on Thursday and the early game on Friday and then have an opportunity for more rest? Isn't that one of the perks of being a #1 seed. Now Tonka has to come back on shorter amount of rest after playing in the 4 OT game, great game.
I am not a Tonka backer and I am sure it is all done for TV ratings, but I just think if you seed the teams, then give the team that earned the #1 seed the advantages of a #1 seed.
Just my thought.
Nah, Tonka has proven that they can choke any day of the week or any time for that matter. Doesn't matter, Hill Murray should have won to begin with.
You talk about Tonka choking, then you say Hill-Murray should have won. Wouldn't that make THEM the chokers?

Did you see the end of that game, how the goal was scored? Tonka looked just as tired in the game vs Hill, it was a night of 2 on 3's for Hill. That was a great game, but Hill outworked Tonka, and Tonka's D and goalie kept them in the game.
A few more hours of rest does not do a whole lost at this point in the tournament, plus I loved seeing an exciting overtime game with two of the top three teams in the tournament to get me pumped for Saturday.

Having an elimination game decided by a shootout is the worst idea I've ever heard.
Taking a player or two off the ice would probably eliminate the multi overtimes.[quote

I disagree here...I've always thought the upper bracket teams have had an advantage, all else being equal. It wouldn't or shouldn't matter if it was just a two game series, and it doesn't matter nearly as much for Class A where they get an off day. But 3 games in 3 days is tough, and I think the extra rest does make a difference, even it it's just a few hours. I don't want to make excuses for Minnetonka, but IMO the 4 overtime game which didn't get over until around midnight did seem to affect them, maybe almost as much mentally as physically. Edina played great and deserved to win, but they owe a big thank you to Hill-Murray for extracting so much effort and emotion out of Tonka the night before.
I personally would be in favor of scheduling the No. 1 seeded team in the first game on Thursday - their play during the season and sections deserve it.

It is good enough for the olympics and the NHL. IMO, they are little higher up the totem pole in stature than a measly MSHL hockey tournament. It is just ridiculous to have kids playing extensive OTs with no limits. Does the name Kory Stringer mean anything to you. If the MSHL does not get their ACT together, they will re-learn it the hard way about Kory Stringer. There is a limit what the human body can do. You really do not want to find that limit or people will be crying over spilled milk. There is no such thing as an accident. All accidents are preventable. Unless of course you are stupid. then they are not.
First of all, can you fill me in on what the MSHL is? I've heard of the MSHSL but never the MSHL.
Second of all, the Kory Stringer comparison might have some validity if the tourney was filled with 300+ pound players and it was over 100 degrees in the arena. Since I don't see either of those happening anytime soon all it's good for is a and a

Illnesses, fatigue, pressure....no more excuses. Every team had challenges to overcome - including being outmanned by Urick's line up. Guess it wasn't "Tonka Time" after all. Too bad for them.
