Little bit different than Pioneer Press All-State.....
NIce change of subject hahaha  8) :D
Gardner? Has upside, but was he one of the top 7 forwards this year? I don’t think so.

Alt? I see his upside, but I thought there were several others who played much better this year

Benik? He put up numbers vs. weak competition, but he can’t get my vote because he is not a two way player

Holl? Same as Alt.

Faust, a very good choice, an excellent two way defensemen

Marshall, one of the best offensive defensemen, but not a good two way player

Prochno, can’t see how he was not included, thought he was Mtka best defenseman, solid two way player

Russell, thought he was the best goalie this year and the most consistent

Honorable mention (don’t get me started), more of the same. What are these guys looking at???

Apparently, they're looking more at popularity.

I don't think media should vote on high school all-state teams. Most of them never played a second of the game, and usually they don't know anything about the kid beside what they see in his stat line the coaches send with the application.
Do the first and second teams for the whole state, then have coaches from the north, metro and south vote on the honorable mention from their respective areas.

Lets not take anything away from those who were selected, all of whom are terrific hockey players.. BUT...
Anyone have any specific snubs??

I have one right of the top of my head.

Jacob Meyers G, BSM.. He is going to be drafted NHL and didnt even make honorable mention yeah his numbers arent awesome but.. come on. Probably could have had jeanetta's spot after watching his state tourney performance..just my opinion....

ALSO quick question.... which one is considered the official ALL-STATE team... AP or PP..

or ????
sorry... Im a tard.

Here's how it works. My son is young for his grade. He is a July b-date and will be 17 when he graduates. We opted, like many do, to start him in school at the age of 5 (only 2 months after turning 5).. In fact, in his hockey age group, he, and maybe two others would have been second-year bantams as 10th graders, where all the rest were 9th graders.

So, these parents had their sons in public schools up thru 8th grade, and realizing that their early birth dates were a disadvantage, they opted to enroll the kids in a private school for 8th grade again, putting them within their normal age group as their teammates. It's not illegal, nor is it ethically wrong... but it worked, as two of the three kids saw playing time on varsity as sophs.

I asked my son if he wanted to do the same, plus, he is Catholic and is not active in the faith, and he said "Hell, NO!!" Leave it to Goldfishdude's son to have language like that!!!
Did they go to a private school because the publics wouldn't allow them to repeat 8th grade? Are privates held to the "No Child Left Behind" rules? or is this just a public school mandate? Did they go there for the religion? education? or extra curricular activities? I think this forum had a poll once on these types of questions!
Body, my recollection is that, because they passed the public school 8th grade, it was presented to the private school as a religious move (plus, it allowed them extra ice time to play for the grade school hockey team). I believe that the red flag was raised by the private school of the intent as to why taking 8th grade overas there may have been feedback given to the school when Wahlin did the same thing the year or two before.

It doesn't take away from the fact that the parents and kids are pretty good people, and I like them very much. They just did what was in the best interest of their children.

or was the move to the Private school for 8th grade to give them a better chance at being acceptted into the private school for 9th grade?

You can't tell me Russel isn't one of the best goaltenders in the state.

Good goalie, yes. But how hard would it be to put up those numbers with the team he had in front of him, playing against these teams 2x's.

Minnehaha Academy
Provudence Academy
St Paul Academy
St Paul Saints
St Paul Como

Inflated stats are not good for anyone.

I completely agree. Most of his impressive stats come from the horrid teams they play. Watching him though, he is a great goalie. Win state two years in a row? Tough for a goalie to do that...

If you know anything about goaltending you can tell he is an elite HS goaltender just by watching him play, regardless of competition.

Ben Jaremko- Elk River
62 points- 41 goals on the season, second behind Kyle Rau for for most in AA. Not even an honorable mention?

Good call, I'd consider Ben's exclusion a major snub.

What I've been saying for a long time, everyone just passing the "koolaid", and real talent gets missed or overlooked.
