Im going to have to go with Duluth East. They are definately one of the best teams in the state and now that their season is on the line they'll be playing extra hard.

My pick would be Woodbury as they are the 2010 state champs

Predictions are the following:

Upper Bracket-

Duluth East beats Roseau
Coon Rapids beats Alexandria

Duluth East will beat Coon Rapids in a close game to get to the championship.

Lower Bracket

Woodbury will beat Brainerd

Mounds View will beat Rochester
Lakeville North will beat Thief River Falls

Lakeville North will beat Moundsview

Woodbury will beat Lakeville North for the lower bracket championship game seed.

Duluth East and Woodbury will play for the VFW Championship, just like it should be!

Winner of that game? Haven't decided yet.
Can Woodbury be the 9th team in Bantam A state history to win both titles in the same year?

Woodbury looked very convincing in the MAHA State Tournament. Duluth East will want a state title because they missed out in playing in the MAHA State Tournament.

There is only one team from the MAHA State Tournament in this field? Woodbury. Why is that? Does Wayzata, OMG not play in District playoffs?

Forest Lake didn't play in districts for VFW. Someone wrote that they did not get signed up, but, played in VFW for the season. Last year we played in the district tourny in Elk River not the league.[Woodbury vs East would be fitting end to season]

Brackets are via Roseau Youth hockey link -

Lakeville North, Rochester, Mounds View or Thief River Falls will have to win 4 games in order to win the championship.

Duluth East, Roseau, Coon Rapids, Alexandria, Woodbury and Brainerd have to win 3 to win the Championship!

Interesting at this level of a tourney, this happens, ie some teams having to win more games than other teams. Kinda takes the shine off of the tourney.......one would expect there to be 0 "advantages" for ANY team. It does appear that the metro teams got hosed, except for TRF since they are also in the same situation.

East will win

Woodbury struggles to get by Wayzata and GR in state and are content with MAHA.

Just As Anticipated. Great way to end the season having Duluth East play Wooodbury for the championship. Both teams were the most consistent teams during the season. Too bad Duluth East didn't make it to the most important State tourney. Woodbury has had one of those seasons to remember only losing 4 games and winning the State Tourney.
Will Duluth East's top line get tired out in championship game because of coaches philosophy of shorting their bench? Will Woodbury's depth, size and quickness be the factor? Or will Woodbury play content because they won State last weekend. I watch Duluth East and they have some very good top end talent, but will 3rd line get more than 5 shifts during the game? Will their #5 and #6 defensemen get any playing time? Tough to be those kids and not see the ice in the big games! Woodbury has some very good top end talent but they have more depth and don't mind playing kids equally! Maybe that is why they won the big one and Duluth East was at home watching.
Hopefully game turns out to be another Classic like Woodbury/Grand Rapids. speciality teams will probably be the difference in this game. Teams have played each other twice during the season with a 4-4 tie and a 4-2 Woodbury win.
Congratulations to both teams on a great season!

Mounds view won consolation 4-0 over Rochester. Lakeville North beat Coon rapids 3-2 for third place. Duluth east is beating Woodbury 4-0 after one period, outshooting Woodbury 11-1! Woodbury looks like they are content with their State tourney won last weekend. Duluth looks like they want this game badly! Woodbury has come from behind before, but this is a big uphill battle for them today!
