The above team and the Select 18 Team will participate in the "MN High School Hockey NIT" that takes place 4/23-4/24 in Plymouth, MN along with high school teams from North Dakota, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

What used to be called the Chicago Showcase is now this. If you follow the links through, you'll quickly discover that it only includes high school teams from WA, PA, OR, NJ, IL, TX, MA, IN, NY, KY, FL, OH, and some sort of "midwest" team. In other words, it's a watered down version of the Chicago Showcase, and high school teams from the "good" hockey states will only be participating in the tournament mentioned above.

What's the difference between the two teams?
I see they play each other.
How were the teams selected?
Were they selected as part of the same process?
Were both teams selected from participants in the Great 8 Tourney?
Anyone care to suggest which team is stronger?

The Great 8 'All Star' team was selected from all the players that played in the Great 8 tournament AND who sent back a sheet saying they were interested in playing in this extra tournament. Many players chose not to say 'yes' and therefore were not an option for this team. All the players on this team are graduating seniors from the MSHSL.

The Advanced 18 team was created from a tryout process (several games) the same weekend and location as Great 8 but not actually part of Great 8. I'm not sure how players got invited to the tryout or were chosen to participate. This team is limited to players that are NOT eligible for Advanced 17 tryouts (not a 93 birthyear) and NOT graduating. In other words, it is limited to this years Juniors that were born in 1992.

If the Rau's had participated, I think I may have gone with the juniors. Tanner Lane could have helped too. As it is, I'm taking the seniors in a blowout.
