How about he only gave up 3 in a3-2 loss to Wayzata tonight. He's going to be about 6'4 too!love2skate wrote:how about Olsen from Apple Valley?

conditioningsucks wrote:I agree completely that GAA is the worst of all goaltending stats. However, it can give you a general idea when compared with the team's schedule. Save percentage is even better and there are even better stats that can be created that take into account some of the things you mention.32HockeyFan wrote:Of any stat you could use, goals against average is the worst barometer to use when evaluating a goalie. It's about save percentage, quality of shots faced, odd man rushes, scoring chances, rebound control, etc. Is someone that faces 30 quality shots a game and has a GAA of 3.0 worse than a goalie that faces 12 weak shots a game and has a GAA of 1.0?
Here is the deal here - Highland played a weak schedule of opponents - none of them known for their sniping ability except for White Bear Lake (where Highland let in 7 goals). All of their other opponents were unranked except for Apple Valley and Minneapolis Park.
To be blunt - who is seeing the quality shots? A kid from the top 10 ranked teams who is facing the toughest bantam teams and snipers week in and week out; or a kid who is seeing shots from a bunch of patsies? You can make some assumptions with GAA when you review a team's schedule. My feeling is that a 2.56 GAA against patsies isn't strong.
This is why I ask, what am I missing here? Is Highland's defense that bad that this guy basically carries the team?
Yes - Highland's goalie carried the team straight the the state tourney. He had a high GAA becuase of the players in front of him. His save percentage was probably in the mid 90's. Example: at the state tourney he only gave up 3 goals out of 45 shots versus Apple Valley... they picked up an empty netter that I don't count. In Districts and Regions, he gave up less then one goal a game. He is a true "gamer"

Take a look at the Final 24 goalies representing the 12 Districts in the Advanced 15 tourney at the end of the month.
Especially for the metro I would assume that is a quality collection of keepers.
Since 2 goalies ONLY per District.

Justin Quale is very up and down. He can be a brick wall for the whole game, until he lets in a garbage goal. After that his confidence is gone.hockeyguy60 wrote:There are some much better goalies than Dugas. He's not bad but he's solid. The Rochester goalie is very good. Also Justin Quale is good for Hopkins.Chaos777 wrote:John Dugas is a 95 goaltender from the Wisconsin Fire, very consistent and has put up some very impressive stats and wins this year.
Patrick Munson, 95 goaltender from White Bear is a very flexible and quick goaltender, very good as well.
Rochester goalie, who's name I don't know is also skilled.

Amsden of St. Pete is good also and also a 94, seems to be struggling a bit this year but has a ton of natural talent. I would also mention the Marshall goalie Brandon Wildung who is a 93. Pretty solid does a good job of keeping Marshall competitive. The Beaupre kid is a 94 not bad but I would take any of the three guys mentioned above over him.
that goalie from albert lea is a joke, he is not good at all

I believe he has been with North Branch from the start.old goalie85 wrote:This North Branch goalie sounds good. Hope he stays at home. Did he grow up in the North Branch program?
He skated out as a 8th grade CINB A Bantam and was one of the better players.
Switched to goalie at the start of the North Branch STP after 8th grade.(always wanted to play the position, but never had)
Had an amazing freshman year

His dad does equipment work for Backstom and Harding and will be training with them this summer from what I hear..
He turned a lot of heads at the Advanced program and will only get better.
Hunter and his brother Calvin(16's) are naturally gifted and are even better kids than hockey players.
Miska
Didn't Miska play ANY goalie as a Bantam? Are you saying he ONLY skated out at Cambridge and played varsity as his first year of goaltending in 09-10 at North Branch?
Please explain.
That is very hard to believe but very very impressive. I enjoyed watching him last weekend, but was told it was his second year of goaltending. He is very quick.

Re: Miska
Never heard of him playing goalie on the CINB A Bantam team. Saw a few games that year and was always skating out. I guess people could say this is his 2nd Summer......?F14 wrote:Didn't Miska play ANY goalie as a Bantam? Re: Miska
I believe he also played goalie during a north branch squirt B1 season if my memory serves me right, shared the position with another goal tender, and did well, sounds like he has always had the passion for this position. and as a goalie mom.... good for him. best of luck. probably good thing we movedMrBoDangles wrote:Never heard of him playing goalie on the CINB A Bantam team. Sounds like he's pretty much a lock for the National Festival so it probably was a good ideagolemom wrote:I believe he also played goalie during a north branch squirt B1 season if my memory serves me right, shared the position with another goal tender, and did well, sounds like he has always had the passion for this position. and as a goalie mom.... good for him. best of luck. probably good thing we movedMrBoDangles wrote:Never heard of him playing goalie on the CINB A Bantam team.
