Advanced 15 try-outs - District 10

As stated previously, it wasn't my player. Just what I saw and the fact there are sooo many players from one certain team. Everyone seems to go back to skills and whatnot and yes that is what this should be about. However the process is political, what list you are on and who you know. If you think that's not true, then you are fooling yourself.Night Train wrote:Pretend there are no politics at all and it will help your perspective. See. Get off the bubble. Make sure your player is a first 10 player pick and you'll never have a problem again.
You should also know that this process doesn't always define the best. There's a limit to the number of invites per association so some nice players are left out right away. Some players play a spring sport and opt not to participate. Now there's a tryout and some of the evaluators have never seen, or know, any of the players. Zero history. That's where the bubble can be a problem.
I'm a fan of smart players. Well guess what, skill is easy to spot from the stands. GPA is a little more difficult to see.
The boys process used to favor large players at the expense of smaller skilled ones. Penner, Nash, Getzlaf, Heatley, Thornton instead of Crosby, Kane, St. Louis, etc. It's tough to decide sometimes as all are great players.
Use it as a motivator to work harder. There are plenty more opportunities to come and I'm sure your player will be better prepared to shine next time.
I would say the talent is deep at the 15 level. I know there were plenty that didn't try-out for various reasons (i.e., spring sports. $$$, or injuries). I think if you compare the lists of who makes it from year to year you can draw the conclusions for yourself. I know of someone at the 17's level that played well the first day of the festival, had been ranked about #2 and didn't make it.Pens4 wrote:How deep was the talent @ the 15 level? I saw some of the 16 and 17's over the weekend and it seemed like the depth wasn't there. The few games I watched didn't lend much room for a chance of controversy in picking the wrong players. Seems to be a pretty distinct line.
