Im sure the 15's who make it to the national festival who played bantams last year could step up at the varsity level next year.

My buddy was watching the District 6 game against distict 4 on sunday.
He said there were a couple of Bantams that definitely stood out, not including the ones that played varsity last year ! Lettieri was one, that really impressed him, he said not only can he read the ice, and skate fast, he said he must have had at least four points. He said there were a few more such as Hill, I think that was the name.

I am not sure in the spelling of these names, but reno, guenztel, fasching, cammaratta, lettieri, meyers ,bader ,knudson, sheehy .........

Reno (Edina) and Fashing (AV) played varsity hockey last season.

Here is a rundown on the Top '95 born players as of now (from what I have heard!)....Much can change in a few years though as all of you know...
1. Fasching - Apple Valley H.S
2. Cammarata - Shattuck Bantam Tier I (Maple Grove)
3. Gross - Osseo/Maple Grove Bantam A
4. Reno - Edina H.S
5. Raskob - Shattuck Bantam Tier I (Hastings)

Would they be as good as they are if they were on different teams? How many really, really good Bantams are out there on small school teams, bad teams. Kid who just play for the love of the game and don't relocate to wherever they have the best chance of being noticed?

I'll bet the NHL is loaded with guys who weren't even noticed until they were well beyond the Bantam age.

The Dustin Penner story is one of the best. He got cut from darn near every team he was ever on. Ended up playing at a Jr. College in North Dakota when not a single 4 year school wanted him.

I'll bet there's twice as many better than the guys on this list you have never heard of.

At the '95 age level....doubtful. Not too many secrets at this age. I've seen most of the kids at this age play at some point, whether for the associations or summer hockey. Give me a name to look for at the Adv 15 this w-end, if some of these players you are referring to better than guys on the list, I'm sure they'll be in New Hope at the Festival.

Any names?

Doubtful. Others that could be considered are Gage Ausmus, Dylan Adler, T.J Moore, and Jon Wittala.

Were talking about 14/15 year olds...there just getting started...a lot can change in 5 to 6 years for a player of this age and indeed most will...should be some fun hockey to watch this weekend. I like D6 as the favored but some say D10, D3 and D8 are right there as well...will see...good luck boys.

That's not the point...the question was who are the top Bantam-age players in the State right now.....of course, things can change over time. But, by and large, the elite players really start to separate themselves from the pack by the ages of 14-15.

Played almost all games as a freshmen.

Played very well in the last two games I saw this weekend at Advanced 15

Which is kinda why it is important to start looking for them beyond the AAA tournaments in Chicago and Detroit all winter.

Why not have tryouts in every affiliate, judged by outsiders, that send kids to the district level for another tryout to attend a national camp.

These are pointless discussions. Someone asks who the top players are for this age and another offers up an informed opinion.

Your, probably uninformed, response is that better players are out there and he just hasn't heard of them. How could anyone prove this?

If there are twice as many that are better, name them.

What will happen, obviously, is that some kids will improve greatly and a large number will end up being better than at least one on his initial list. in three years you could say, "see! I told you!"

A great thread on this board dates back about five years. I resurrected it a year or two ago. The question was, "who is the best out of Budish-Everson-Gaarder?"

Based on where they are today, Zach Budish is clearly the answer. He missed almost a season and was a 2nd Round pick. Next is Marshall Everson. He played at Harvard, and put up a good season on a bad team. I don't know where Connor Gaarder is now.

Funny thing is that more people said Gaarder was the best of that bunch when they were Bantams, and of course he wasn't even in the "big 3" as a senior because it was Anders Lee in his place in the pecking order.

You can find the thread by going back to March of either 2008 or 2009. While it validates the "a lot changes after Bantams" crowd, it doesn't change the fact that many thought Gaarder was the best in Bantams.

Another example is Tommy Zimmerman from Cretin. In bantams, he was clearly one of the top players and better than anyone Edina had, by there own admission. OT-you are dead right.

This past year, the best first-year bantam (age wise) was Hudson Fasching. But watch out for a Park Storm kid named Keegan Iverson. Both of these guys are already over 6-feet tall, so size will not be an issue. Others will probably catch up to these two, but not very many others.

you also have some very skilled players who have not grown yet. Get some of these guys up to even 5'10 and they will be able to compete at a high level.
