You might have a valid point if the only evaluation criteria was the weekend performance, but the coaches had input and 4 weeks of practices to evaluate their own players.

You hit the nail on the head. Some coaches have the bias to influence the ratings. Many of these coaches were the regular season coach for the players they are promoting. You mean to tell me that a player did not even have to show up to make the St. Cloud group!! I believe this because I know of a player that only played two of the three games last weekend and impressed the evaluator so much with his one goal that he made it to St. Cloud. Tell me why Conner Chambers, one of the more productive varsity freshman did not make the St. Cloud group. Minnesota Hockey needs to clean up its act with the select 15’s. We know how many don’t make it to the 16’s and I think it tells a story of how the 15’s are run. Before you attack me I don’t have a kid in this program.

That may be so, the coaches do evaluate in their own district. But he was not compared to any of the other 72 players at his position. And I understand the political end, but this kid isnt a known name other then his father happens to be a high school caoch.

Sure he was. He was watched for weeks during district evals and compared against the others on his own team. Then they saw where those guys fit in and placed this kid accordingly.

It may not be ideal, but a minor injury shouldn't necessarily mess it all up. It might have, for a lesser player, but presumably they determined this kid obviously would have been there.

In my view, this is what we want evaluators to do in these situations. It's a judgment call based on their observations and it is far from unprecedented in many tryouts I've seen over the years.

The reason Chambers didn't make it is because Bushy was D15 coach and he made sure his grandson made the team.

An interesting side note on those that made the trip to St. Cloud, seven kids (Zach Hartley, Jimmy Tich, Thomas Lindstrom, Taylor Cammarata, Noah Westphal, Cody Meyer and Andrew Sprang) all played for the 95 Wisconsin Fire.

- interesting, I guess. But not really surprising is it? At least 4 have played for the Icemen and 4 for team RBK. I'd suspect other teams are represented similarly. And at least 12 (at one time or another) for the Blades. All are numbers I'd expect.

I count 12 players on the current 95 Blades website. About 10 more played with the Blades over the years.

Funny Chambers and Ahlgren from D15 who didn't make it played for Blades in Toronto. Should have been 12 others.

I disagree. I've had 2 older boys make the Adv 15's in the past and like the other past lists, I would say 2/3's of this list is right. Not every kid had a good weekend. If you recall, not all games had evaluators watching 24/7. Some evaluators missed a lot of exciting moves, passes, goals, and saves. Some of the more talented kids didn't do anything and still made the list; even with a lot of (-'s).

It was disappointing to see a bunch of individuals show boating and not passing. I know this may upset the smaller associations with smaller numbers but there are only a handful of good kids that played in the "round robin" division. A lot of talented kids were passed on from the regular playoff bracket just to make room for these other kids. I see a lot of "polictics/good old boys" in the final list.

These coaches who recommend these kids just because they're your buddy/grandson/neighbor/whatever are not doing these kids any favors. These kids are often teased in the locker room because they can't keep up. The nice thing is that they might have an Adv 15 t-shirt that claims they are better than the guys they bumped.

I was happy to see my son's name on the list but disappointed in seeing the names of others who will hold many others back in St. Cloud. Don't get me wrong. I want my kid getting pushed by the best skaters in his age group and to skate down with some below average kids who were sent to St. Cloud for the wrong reason(s). At least the list of kids going to New York will be easy to make.

Wow....don't even know what to say about this post. Maybe you should teach your son and others that's it not nice to tease. And for the other more "deserving" players that didn't make the list...well this will be another life lesson for them to learn: "Life isn't always fair". And the list of players that will be selected to go to New York will NOT be "easy to make"....There is a deep and talented group of 95's going to St Cloud and there will be some very talented players who won't make it. I can think of some that will probably be "shoo-ins" (Fasching, Cammaretta, Gross, etc.) but the bubble will be quite large and there will be some "surprise" picks. Trust me.

Oh, and one other thing, NONE of the players going to St. Cloud could ever be considered "below average". These are all "A" level Bantam, JV or Varsity players....

I agree with O Canada I had a son in A15 a few years back and while there is always a few kids that should or should not make it I could not believe the amount of sucking up being done before and during the festival. A bit of advice to future players don't worry about play in your own end , evaluaters usually only notice selfish individual play. Remember this is a individual tryout if you play like you did during the year as a team player you will probably be done real soon and yes my son did advance so I am not bitter about that just something that I observed.

Some more looking back at the where the current advanced kids (90 skaters only) played in their final year at peewee. A few at the end I couldn’t remember or figure out. The very reason I am not a fan of Minnesota Advanced program evaluation. But in all seriousness if you are a hockey player DO NOT let this program dictate your success.

Marco Lucarelli also skated for the 08-09 Irondale peewee A.

Thank you. I missed them. That also makes both of them a third year player. Congratulations to each. They made the advanced 15 after playing only one year at bantams.

I'm fairly certain Lukas Majerle skated on the Bantam A team in 08-09 for Little Falls.
