Could This Be Possible?

Post by BlaineU14AGoalie »

It's going to sound crazy but I think I lost my goalie skills. During the season I did really good and some of the saves I made would make your jaw drop, but after losing in State to Edina I haven't been the same. When doing Legacy or something more pucks go in then I stop. I can't catch like I used to, my rebounds don't go into the corner and it seems like the pucks are going through my five hole more often. It's really frustrating to go out onto the ice and let a bunch of pucks in when I'm trying my best and people when people are asking me what's going on you arn't playing like you usually do. Could it be possible that I did lose my goalie skills?

Moving up a level it makes sense that you have that feeling. Shots are harder and the players shot releases are quicker and you aren't get set up as quickly as you used to. The good thing is you will learn to adjust to the new tempo as long as you are willing to work hard. You also tend to drop too quickly at this age and open up the top and 5 hole. Shooters are more patience and wait for you to make the first move.

You will have a good goalie coach next year. Good Luck CJ

The sad thing is that it's not just highschool shooters that i'm struggling to stop it's my old teammates when we happen to go to open hockey, and what you said does make alot of sense.

Thanks alot!

Your old teammates know you and your tendencies. Open hockey allows them time to see you make the first move. Stand up and attack, take away the net, then back in as they get closer. Show them something different every time they come in on you.
Fact is you should know their tendencies, too. For example, one twin shoots one timers. Attack her before the puck gets to her. Her head is down. Her center passes more than shoots, her sister passes to her twin more than shoots and will shoot more than passes to her center.

As you play and watch more hockey you will get this. I use to tell my scorers to go watch goalies before you play them if you can. The opposite can be true also, go watch scorers.

I do know where all of them shoot it's just hard to stop them. If i'm correct your talking about Sam, Katie and Kierstan and yes Katie is the one who always shot with her head down but the shots always seemed to go in, I will try to come out and attack when shes not looking and thanks for the ideas. I always try to go to practices to watch the shooters and see which one's are the best and all that.

For some odd reason an athlete will go "stale" once in awhile. Could be a mental thing or just tuckered out. When it happens in golf, for an example, time away from the game for a short period re-energizes the temperment for the game. Work on little things that are fun.

Some coaches will notice this in a player and give them time off to regroup. Be patient. I would think you will get your old game back, just don't over work yourself over a setback. Enjoy the game as it is.
