Semi Final Games- Sunday, May 9th
#1 Seed Northern Lumber (7), #4 Seed Super 8 (1)
Northern Lumber scored the first four in the game and never looked back in this 7-1 win over Super 8. Talk about balanced scoring, seven different players scored for Northern Lumber. Bo Gronseth (Hermantown) led the way with a goal and three helpers. Sam Gerth (Hermantown) was solid in nets picking up the win stopping 21 of 22 shots faced.
#3 Seed Bachand Group (5), #2 Seed Miken Hockey (4)---Overtime Shootout
In a back and forth game Bachand scores a late goal to tie the game up at 4-4 and win the game in a shootout over Miken Hockey. In the game Gunnar Kubera (Hermantown) scored two goals for Bachand Group. Scoring the late goal to put the game to overtime was Grant Sega (Hermantown). Jesse Scanlon (Proctor) scored two goals for Miken Hockey. After no goals in the four on four overtime the game went to a shootout. The shootout went all five rounds with the game winning goal being scored by Billy Ciesielski (Proctor)
Championship Game- Tuesday, May 11th
#1 Seed Northern Lumber (5), #3 Seed Bachand Group (4)---Overtime Shootout
A game that looked like it would be a blowout early in the second period turned out to be one of the most exciting games you could have witnessed. Northern Lumber started out strong scoring the first three goals of the game as Joe Daly (Marshall), Pat Potswald (Denfeld) and Lane LeGarde (Hermantown) all put the biscuit in the basket. About five minutes into the second period Brett Sterk (Hermantown) took it upon himself to get Bachand Group back in the game as he blasted two home in ten minutes to make it 3-2 Northern Lumber after two periods. Early in the third Bachand tied it up at three as Gunnar Kubera (Hermantown) scored. With eight minutes left in the game Billy Ciesielski (Proctor) scored to give Bachand the lead. The lead was short lived however as Bo Gronseth (Hermantown) tied it up with six minutes remaining. No more goals occurred during the rest of regulation or overtime meaning that the championship game will be decided by a shootout. Ciesielski scored right away for Bachand but it was the only goal the team would score in the shootout. Northern Lumbers second shooter Potswald and third shooter Gronseth scored to give the Lumber the win.
Northern Lumber ended up winning all ten games that they played in the season.
Platinum League Playoffs
Play-in Game-Sunday, May 9th
#5 Seed Subway (6), #4 Seed Grandma’s (2)
Subway came ready to play in this game defeating Grandma’s 6-2. Subway was led by Ben Ruberg (Two Harbors) with two goals and an assist. Jordan Buetow (Denfeld) had a goal and two assists for Subway. Brian Anderson (Marshall) was stellar in the nets for Subway stopping 23 of 25 picking up the win.
Semi-Final Game-Sunday, May 9th
# 2 Seed Perkins (4), #3 Seed Edge (3)
Four different players scored for Perkins in the 4-3 win over Edge. Adam Glorvigen (Grand Rapids), Jace Luoma (Grand Rapids), Chuck Anderson (Mora), and Anthony DeCaro (Central) scored for Perkins. T.J. Belisle (St. Francis) had a goal and an assist for Edge.
Semi-Final Game-Tuesday, May 11th
#1 Seed Blackwoods (5), #5 Seed Subway (4)---Overtime Shootout
A great semi-final game at the Heritage Center as in a see-saw game Blackwoods ties it late and wins it in a shootout 5-4 over Subway. Dave Grannis (Marshall) Started the scoring for Blackwoods early in the game. Midway through the period Matt Bauer (Marshall) scored for Subway to tie it up but a minute later Grannis scored his second of the game for Blackwoods. Subway’s Aaron Dusek (Marshall) scored late in the period to make the score 2-2 after one. Midway through the second period Subway took the lead as Aaron Rich (Marshall) blasted one home followed by a Blackwoods goal by Dan Litchke (Superior). Subway scored a late goal as Dusek scored his second of the game. The scoring star of the game howeve was Grannis as he scored his hat-trick goal with nine minutes remaining to tie the game up at 4-4. There was no more scoring in regulation or overtime meaning that for the second time on Tuesday both games will go to the shootout tied at 4-4. Jordan Shockley (Marshall) scored right away for Blackwoods in the shootout. In round two the only goal was scored by Jake Bushey (Marshall) for Subway. The score remained that way until the final shooter of the best of five shootout skated to center ice to take a shot. Ian Ecklund (Proctor) picked up the puck skated in made a great move and lit the lamp giving Blackwoods a 5-4 win and advancing the team to the championship game vs Perkins Sunday at 7:00pm at the Heritage Center.
