Which birth year?HockeyDad41 wrote:Maybe a few years ago this statement would be accurate. Not sure about now. Great program but the benchmark? I guess I would like to see the Blades and the Machine play each other a couple of times before the title of benchmark is awarded.Bruins wrote:polyman22 wrote:No, but it is bad news. The thread talks about the struggles that the Blades teams are having this summer. Losing at the prospects tournament would not be considered good news.
A 7 to 2 loss is a fairly one sided game. The periods in that tournament or "halfs" are short so if it were three 20 minute stops the score may have been more one sided.
The Blades are the benchmark for AAA hockey in Minnesota. Most of the association folk on the island of Minnesota have not played against tier 1 AAA teams. For the Blades to play as well as they do against these teams is impressive. Every age group with the Blades will have many more wins than loses at the end of the summer. If the Blades were not thought of as the top AAA team in MN this thread would not exist.

My team? I've got no dog in the fight so it really means nothing to me. Sorry you have misunderstood.Bruins wrote:Benchmark because of the long history the team has at developing players. Hey you are diehard Blades guy and that's fine. I just think it would be great to see those two team play each other a few times at each birth year (that they have teams at) to put the silly Blades/Machine argument to rest.
I compare most teams I see to both of those programs, because I think they both very good at what they do.

I've seen the 95 Blades and Machine teams play each other quite a few times....generally the Blades came out on top. The 96 Machine team was really solid when they were at their peak.HockeyDad41 wrote:My team? I've got no dog in the fight so it really means nothing to me. Both programs are pretty solid.
The real test will be to see if BM can put together U14 and U16 teams to compete at the Future Prospects tournament in Blaine each September in conjunction with the NAHL Showcase. This past year was the first one and the Blades U14 team dominated it. The problem is that BM has a way of souring the relationships between him and his players/parents, so by the time they get to be that U14 age many don't want to have anything to do with him.

This year? Where? I am having trouble finding any recent meetings between these two programs.muckandgrind wrote:I've seen the 95 Blades and Machine teams play each other quite a few times....generally the Blades came out on top. 00 Machine signed up for Independent Classic to play Blades
00 Machine signed up for Independent Classic just to play 00 Blades but they backed out after they had paid $$ deposit?
Hopefully Blades will show up in Winnipeg (with other Brick teams) or Easton Cup or Caribou - heard Blades are signed up for Caribou? Anyone know if that is correct?

The Machine's 95 team quit Minnesota Made two years ago and formed as Team Breakaway. Same coach and the majority of the same players. Before they quit, they played each other quite a bit in scrimmages and tournaments.HockeyDad41 wrote:This year? Where? They also played each other last year, but instead of Blades vs Machine, is was Blades vs Breakaway.
Since we've seen both the 95 AND 96 Machine teams split from BM.....what are the odds we'll see the 97 team go their own way? Or wil they be the first team to make it to the U14 Showcase?

Have you seen the current 97,98, 99, 00, or 01 teams play the Blades recently? Whether or not the 95 Machine/Breakaway 2 years removed from MM is competitive with them isn't what I am trying to find out.muckandgrind wrote:The Machine's 95 team quit Minnesota Made two years ago and formed as Team Breakaway. As far as the rest of it, time will tell. I have spoken to a couple of 97 and 99 parents and it sounds like they are pretty tight teams. I hope they are able to keep those teams together.
I know the Blades played in the Caribou last year and I know some of the MM teams will be there this year, so maybe they will get a chance to play against them then.

I remember back when the 95 and 96 Machine parents were loyal to BM as well. After a while, they all got sick of his heavy-handed tactics of running those teams and decided that they don't need to fork over all their money to him to have a good time and get better. The 96 team was his baby - nobody would have EVER guessed that they would've left from under the MM umbrella...and yet they did. Those kids (and parents) have ALWAYS been tight, and still are...they still like playing together, they just can't stand playing for Bernie...HockeyDad41 wrote:Have you seen the current 97,98, 99, 00, or 01 teams play the Blades recently? More Blades Lies
The 96 team was dropped by BM beacuse of a couple of nutso parents. BM said he would not coach the team after last year. The team was offered to Marty Nanne but Marty did not have the time. So the players all went different ways.
BM had nothing to do with the 95 team that was Mark Austin and Dave Suggerud. When Dave wanted the team to practice at Chaska and not skate at Mn Made BM said if they are not even buying ice at his rink why let them contiue the use the name.
The fact is that the Machine has hurt the Blades and they are grasping at straws.

You couldn't be more wrong. I have a copy of the email the BM sent the 96 parents. In it, he apologizes for his boorish behavior at the parents meeting and then goes on to berate the parents....and to top it off, he asked for them to send him a check for the next year. It's a really strange email. I've spoken with a couple of the parents from that team and they told me that the atmosphere around that team was extremely poisonous and it all came down from the coach.hockeydad11 wrote:More Blades Lies

Let me ask you....does Bernie still make the parents sign a contract saying that they won't have drink alcohol at the out of town tournaments?
I'll say it again....let's see if BM can retain the loyalty of his players long enough to field a strong U14 team.....as of right now, his track record doesn't look too good.

You must be new to the AAA scene.....giving up on 10 year olds already, huh? They "died" (as a team).....really???? One bad tournament????eastondude wrote:The word is that the 99 Blades died in Toronto
They went 1 and 3 and did not advance. 1 and 3, that 3 losses. Not good. !!!
Some of the newer clubs would do better than alot of Blades team and they would not have to use imports. Do the Blades need kids from out State to help the loose?

I guess if that is true, I would hope that some lessons were learned and maybe the '97 and '99 can stay together for the long haul.muckandgrind wrote:I remember back when the 95 and 96 Machine parents were loyal to BM as well.
