For those that happen to go watch any of these games, keep an eye out for #13 Jake Wahlin on team #2... Jake lead the WBL A Bantam team in scoring.... at one point late in the season, he had about 45 goals with the next closest about 20. I am not sure if he eclipsed the 50 goal mark or not..
I will be curious as to see how he will be able to play in the physical side of the game.. He is small, but extremely good on skates and handling the puck. He will be the next big player out of WBL soon.
Of course, I think if there is a chance for him to leave WBL, he will. I have been on record to say that I would love to be able to see Jake on a line with his brother, Brandon, the team's leading scorer in the 2010-11 season. I have also been on record to state that I may be Brandon's biggest fan outside his family. And to see the two brother's play on the same team would be a thrill for the WBL fans to see.
Oh... by the way... Jake should have been a 3rd-year Pee Wee in 2009-10, but played A Bantams, and will be entering 8th grade next year.. Good luck, Jake, I will be pulling for you!!

Jake is a pretty small kid... It's unrealistic to assume his hockey skills and sense would allow him to play varsity as he will have his issues, no doubt, in the physical aspect of the game. That's how I will be curious to hear how he handles himself in this league.. However, he could very well be protected if he's on a line with bro Brandon, and Max Birkinbine.

Jake is a quality player - instinct, elusiveness, hockey smarts - and from an adult standpoint, he has always been very respectful to me, outgoing and humble. I know he gets that from his father. How he is in the locker room, I don't know... I haven't heard any complaints..
If there is any "jealousy" or 'knock" on Jake by others is that he can be labled a selfish player, but the reality is that many times, he had to take control 1) because they couldn't stop him and 2) when he would pass the puck, his linemates had issues in catching passes or finishing...
It's hard to explain to other parents and kids that when you are four strides ahead of someone like Jake always seemed to be, and he can take it to the net himself, they can't realtistically expect him to put on the brakes and wait for his linemates to get into the play...
The one thing I can be sure of is that Jake's father is as protective of his sons as the next guy, and if he didn't think Jake would be able to handle it, he wouldn't be playing. I also would like to think Scott Steffen, the league director, agrees he is ready to play....

It's a no checking league. Even Chrissy Pronger could play in this league.Goldfishdude wrote:The one thing I can be sure of is that Jake's father is as protective of his sons as the next guy, and if he didn't think Jake would be able to handle it, he wouldn't be playing. You better round up all the boosters, cause I don't think the Wahlins can afford HM.pioneers wrote:We better call Lechner and get one in the mail this week.Pioneerprideguy wrote:Sounds like the only thing this kid needs now is a green Jersey.

BTW, I heard a rumor at a grad party this past weekend that the Wahlin's have moved out of WBL. Maybe Moose will be coaching one of his ex players son.

My son is skating on Jake's this team and I have seen 3 games - Jake stands out in each game I was shocked that he is only an 8th grader - he could play HS this year for most teams. He uses his vision and skating very well to not get in trouble or to get out of trouble.Goldfishdude wrote:For those that happen to go watch any of these games, keep an eye out for #13 Jake Wahlin on team #2...
