97 Machine vs 97 Blades
Anyone catch the scrimmage last night at MM between the '97 Machine and '97 Blades?
That was my first '97 game and I'll give you credit Muck, it was a heck of a lot different than the way 10 year olds play. It's amazing how they change in 3 years.
Great hockey! I wasn't able to stay for the whole thing, so I am curious about the final score.

See, that's why we don't hammer on 9-10 year old kids. First year parents must get control of their emotions and stop thinking little Johnny is the next coming of Sidney Crosby, and give these kids several years of developement, than we hammer on them...hard!HockeyDad41 wrote:Anyone catch the scrimmage last night at MM between the '97 Machine and '97 Blades?

If you think there is a big difference between '97 and '00 level of play, you should watch a '95 game. The difference between the 95s and 97s is way bigger than between the 97s and 00s.. The game changes exponentially as these kids grow, develop and increase their hockey sense. You'll look back at this age you're kid is at now (10 years old) and realize that they were just a bunch of cute, little water-bugs scooting around the ice. ...At this age, "team play" is a concept most kids have yet to comprehend. One or two players can really take over a game and go end to end on a constant basis. As they get older, fewer kids are able to go end to end and must start looking to pass more (because if they don't, they'll get their head knocked off)....heck most of them can't even carry their own bags at 10..
This is why most of us who've been through it already are saying "relax". Don't get hung up on the wins and losses at 10 years old. What matters most is how those kids improve over the next few years. You want to know how successful a AAA program is? Look at the players when they are 13-15 years old. If they are still with the program and they are winning the TRULY prestigious tournaments, THEN you can start thumping your chest about how good that program really is and how they compare to the others in town.

The 97 blades are a great team to watch if you get a chance, I haven't seen them yet this year but in years past at the Prospects.... and they move the puck so well, play great as a team, they must do something right to be one of the best in the country.....I'm sure the machine are very good too, I just haven't seem them in quite a while.
