Post by F14 »

Day One was Saturday. Saw Light Blue defeat Royal 4-1 last night, I believe Gray also won their game 2-1. Gray is Hudson Fasching's team.

Rosters are at www.minnesotahockey.org under Advanced.

Games are at 1:15, 3:00, and 8:00 pm SUN-WED Night.

All GAME ARE FREE to Attend and are AT National Hockey Center SCSU RINK. Parking is also FREE.

Thursday Games are at 8am and 9:30am

Kids play 6 games in 6 days with practices every day as well. Goalie also have a second practice in the AM every morning.

I had the opportunity to catch a couple of the games this afternoon and the White squad looks pretty strong. They beat the Royal team 6-1 and controlled most of the play. White has a number of forwards with speed and size.

I did not see the final score but Gold was up 2-1 over gray late in the game. If they held on, this would be a nice victory for Gold after a pretty sound spanking at the hands of the White squad last night.

Who's going to make the National Advanced 15 contingent from MN? (7 defensemen, 12 forwards, 2 goaltenders)?

Update from St. Cloud

Post by F14 »

As the tourney continues, the Light Blue team is 3-0-1 and White team is 3-0 and has only given up one or two goals. They are playing 2 23minute running time halves (6 games in 6 days).

Rosters available at www.minnesotahockey.org

They will meet tomorrow at 1:45 pm and then again on Thursday for the Championship game at 9:45am.

Light Blue was slightly outshot yesterday 36-35 in a 4-2 win over Gray team (Fasching's team). Blue had a 18-4 shot advantage in the first at one point which completed evaporated. Froom (St. Louis Park) stopped 20 of 21 in the 2nd and Miska (North Branch) had 14 saves in 15 shots. Daniel Labosky (BSM) supplied two goals and is one of the stalwarts on the team. Jimmy Tich (Hill Murray JV), and John Wiitala (Lakeville South)are other standouts at forward.

Jordan Gross (MG), Vanelli (Holy Family) the Two Duluth Bantams (Beaulieu and Trapp) Blake Heinrich (Hill Murray JV) and the other defense are playing well. Dugas (Hill Murray) stopped 22 or 25 for Gray in net in the first period.

Light Blue won 6-1 today over Gold and outshot them 40-12. Complete domination the team really passed excellent and played way better than on Monday.

White team is undefeated and has 4 varsity players and another in Cammaretta who could have played varsity anywhere last year.

They are led by Forwards Taylor Cammerette (Shattuck) --192 points at Shattuck, TJ Moore (BSM), Aaron Rouse (Buffalo), Nathan Erickson (MG), the big guy Derek Lodermeier (Totino)
Defense, Parker Reno (Edina), Dylan Adler (Anoka)

They won 7-0, 6-1, and 3-0 last night. Goaltending has been good and defense solid.

Other players I have seen this week perform well are Luke Voltin of Hill Murray who is a great forward. I thought besides Fasching, Cody Meyer of New Prague was a good blueliner and Connor Thie of Hopkins played well.

Mike Brodzinski (Blaine), Zach Hartley (Holy Angels), Zach Yon (Roseau)

---I was walking around the Arena last night and saw 7 Evaluators all in a suite with clipboards. I have seen lots of evaluators in the stands as well.

Seems like a large cross section of people watching. Great job by John Perry and Scott Dornfeld who are in charge of this event.

First class set up in the dorms at SCSU for all of the kids.

Agree on your defense, I would add Forwards Andrew Schofield and Devon Donohue, and goalies Hunter Miska, Andrew Sprang and Ryan Froom to the mix

I'd agree with a few of the obvious locks mentioned above but beyond that remember it's not just what you might see in games and their results. Work ethics, attitudes, athleticism, etc. all count. It's going to be a tough call on at least a few of them. Goalies are a complete crap shoot. Just taking into account number and quality of shots faced (some a few shots from the outside each game, some getting shelled from the slot). The evaluators know what they're looking for. It IS a well run program.
Good luck to all!!

Woops.....Forgot the goalies!

I am going to assume the two heading to New York will be Miska and Sprang.

I've found that assumptions are almost always dangerous things.

Yeah, no offense to any of the goalies, but kind of a weak class this year. I wasn't overly impressed with any of them at the Festival..

I agree. They are a solid group but none are exemplary. There are no standouts. I'd guess that the choices will be made on what the evaluators see regarding future potential.

Was it possible to play much better than Miska did at the festival?

With that team in front of him, how well did he have to play? I'm not trying to take anything away from him. He's a great story, a good bit of natural athleticism and talent, but I don't see that he's proved anything above and beyond what anyone else there did. And, I have no self interest here. I played goal myself but my kid is trying out as a forward. I'm just saying I don't see anything cut & dried about which goalies deserve to move on.

Is it possible that numbers at 95 level for goal tending are lower than 94 or 96. I can speak for district 10 last year bantam A almost every district 10 team had 1 96 goalie if not 2 in many cases, I can only think of 3 teams that had a 95 or 94 goaile on roster. Which puts next years advanced program from district 10 very heavy in goaltending. I don't know much about the 94's to know if they have good numbers.

i think that could be the case, i know the district i evaluated only had 4 goalies try out...I think the better goalies in Bantams were all 94's too...Dingman, Shepard, Quale...

Maybe they should rotate the goalies around. I don't know always a tough position to pick in this kind of situation.

Few ways to make it better. The cost is way to high, shorten the length of the camp. Saturday thru Tuesday, morning skills work out and games in the evening so the players are fresher. The last few days of the camp the guy's are very tired looking. More engagement from the coaching staff on the bench during games and in the locker rooms before and after games. These are still young kids and they need some game coaching etc. I like that rotate the goalies suggestion.

"With that team in front of him." Are you talking the District 10 team? I think he allowed two goals in the three games and a lot of the games that weekend were very high scoring....

Did NOT see the first half, but it was tied 4-4 when I arrived. In my opinion District 8 controlled play and must have sent 20 shots at Hunter Miska (North Branch Varsity) who made several spectacular saves to keep the score tied. With under two minutes to go D8 scored on a clean shot to win it.

Miska was very good. D8 advanced and they are the better team

D 6 5

D 3 4

Line of Fasching (AV) Labosky and Moore (BSM) were super and I really enjoyed watching Parker Reno (Edina) on defense.

Taylor Cammarette from Shattuck (D3) was the best player on the ice though as he really stickhandled well and set up his teammates. Not big, but his stickhandling and puck sense was very good.

Very very enjoyable game to watch.

Should be a fun title game. 1:15pm at New Hope NOrth on Sunday.

Third place game is at 11:15.
