PeeWee Choice League

Post by Newbie Dad »

Can anyone add any insight into the new PeeWee Choice league that MM is will be offering this winter? I think it is new anyway.

The PeeWee level at our association isn't going to be very strong, probably not even have an A team, so I'm wondering if this wouldn't be a good supplement for my son.

Its the 4rd year of the Mite League

Its the 3rd year of the Squirt League

Its the first year of the PeeWee League

All leagues have been successful for MM. 100 hours of skating and scrimmages. It provides a feeder program for BM's summer teams.

The real question is when will someone else will follow this model and set up their own league?

I know this is a little off topic, but since I suspect (don't know this for sure and could be completely wrong so forgive me) that the Choice League was born out of the belief that some associations were not providing adequate development, I started wondering if a group of people ever got so fed up with their association that they started their own and competed with the old one for players and ice time.

It would make more sense to put that energy into assisting all the kids in their community and working to improve the association. Life is about serving others.

Snoop Dogg started a football league around Oakland like this. Pretty controversial.

August 1st is also the cut for soccer. Not sure if that is a national date or just where I live.

I think it is January 1st for the national team.

I know this is a Peewee Choice topic, however, BM's Choice league is excellent, especially for Mites. Associations really lack development for Mites. When my son was in Mites, he could have played at the Squirt C level but couldn't because of his age. The Mite Choice league put him at the same level as others. These kids then move up to Squirt Choice. Most Choice kids are on AAA teams because of their ability. Now these Squirt kids who are moving to Peewees at their association have a good option to continue the same level of development (supplementing the association's). I am not knocking associations, but Choice does do a superior job with development. They are not so concerned with winning games. More about developing the kids. Associations need to start bringing in development time into their practice schedule, instead of just working on breakouts.

Does anyone know if there are still opennings for the PeeWee level choice league, or when their tryouts are?

I have started a winter season 3on3 league that begins play this winter for squirt age kids in our area (which is in Wisconsin). The idea is to have some of the better association kids in the area skating on late Sunday afternoons in tourney style 3on3 against eachother to compliment their association practices and games. It gives them a chance to skate hard and fast against their peers once a week at a higher level than association hockey offers in a fun environment. Since it's the first year I cut it off at 24 skaters and 2 goalies for the one hour of ice time. I am hoping once I know what good and bad things come of it that we can expand it to other age levels and more kids next year. I don't know what the choice league is or who runs it but if it's anything like this good for them.

Thanks for the suggestion HD41... They said that evaluations will be sometime in August. Anyone interested should register now and then they will be notified when the evaluations get scheduled.
