Would give the Big 10 six member schools that have hockey and thus enough for their own league. Adding a Big 10 Hockey Conference would allow the Big 10 network to broadcast hockey. This would be a potentially large revenue stream.

That would mean that the WCHA would loose its two biggest markets (Twin Cities and Madison) and lots of revenue. They would still be a viable league with adding the Beavers and Omaha but not the same powerhouse they are today. I don't think Minnesota and Wisconsin will have a ton of say in whether this happens or not.

The Big Ten Women's league would have 4 teams.
Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota.

Maybe, the new league would only apply to the Men's teams.

Everyone immediately assumes that the WCHA will be left in the lurch. Having six Big 10 teams allows for a Big 10 championship, like the Ivy League schools do in the ECAC. There is no need to form a separate conference, at least not until additional Big 10 teams are created.

With women's varsity hockey not likely to materialize out of Mich. State or Michigan anytime soon, I don't think you're going to see a Big Ten conference for the women anytime soon either. Although circumstances are different for CC and DU...not likely to see division I women's hockey from either of them.

It's unfortunate some powers that be at the Michigan institutions are so opposed to supporting varsity hockey for the women...or at best, have little interest in the game as a collegiate varsity sport. Need those roster spots for a growing talent pool...and those schools could easily support women's teams IMO.

A Michigan college, or two, should offer girls hockey. There are at least 3 19U Tier I teams playing in Michigan, Little Caesars, Belle Tire and Victory Honda. That is a lot of high end talent in the State that all have to leave the State to play D1 hockey. Are there any D3 programs in Michigan?

The only other schools are Adrian Collage and Finlandia University at the D3 level.
