I would say that everyone in the new Lake conference has just as tough of a schedule. Most of the teams in the Lake will play pretty much the same teams except Hopkins who has an easier non-conference schedule than the others.Garth wrote:Eden Prairie #1 - a tough schedule doesn't make a team #1 by itself but tell me a team who is testing itself better than EP with this schedule.

Do you know something that the Warroad coaches don't? I talked to one of them this summer and he said they will be alright but down from this year. Maybe make it to state but they will have to battle both TRF and EGF in the section. He also said after this year it looks as if the section will be dominated by EGF for a few years. He was very impressed by their youth programs of late.O CANADA! wrote:Breck lost all their studs to the East Coast. Their weakness will be their goaltending. I put them at #8. 1. Breck....... 2 time state champs, #1 till they get beat.
2. STA...........Have a great chance to contend and take out Breck at the X

4. Blake.......May give Breck a run in 2A
5. Hermantown.......anyone in 5A that can contend with them??
6. Warroad
7. Lourdes....Returning freshmen and solid D got them to state last season.
8. Little Falls.....darkhorse
9. Thief River Falls
10. Alexandria........2 visits to state in a row.

But I don't think everyone else in the Lake has a tough non conference schedule. Find out the non conference teams that Wayzata, Edina, and Tonka play and we can see.

Tonka's non-conference schedule is comparable to EP

Actually, I was kinda hoping that EGF would consider moving up to AA because of this.
They have actually done better than Roseau in youth hockey lately and much better that Moorhead.

It is not uncommon for EGF to have strong youth teams, they always implode by High School.TTpuckster wrote:

1. Edina (returning almost whole team)
2. Eden Prairie (rau, rau, molenaar, ford)
3. Hill Murray (bahe, lavalle, shaughnessy, controneo)
4. Burnsville (enghum, dockry, madigan)
5. Apple Valley (michaelson, Fasching, Pedrie?, smith)
6. Minnetonka (shutt, coatta, frawley, baskin, younger D should get better)
7. Eagan (zajac, boedeker, merchant)
8. Duluth East (randolph, schendel, jeanetta, toninato, hollappa)
9. Benilde (Horn, daly, steinhausser, besse)
10. Holy Angels (labate, hurley, mork)
Edina is returning practically everyone. They will be very strong... but beatable
Eden Prairie has the whole super soph crew back as seniors. Will have a truck load of skill
Hill Murray -casto, faust but should have huge core of leaders back.
Burnsville has great goalie and pretty good forwards and D. enghum can win many games
Apple valley power back a year older a year better
Minnetonka, lost their top 3 D but little prochno and co. will get good practice during the reg season. 2 forward lines strong for sure
Eagan, bigger and more experienced. They got the job done last year, can expect them to do it again
Duluth East, lose Welinski early but juniors on team will carry the load
Benilde, Horn Besse Stein (fire power) 60+ points for all three of them. goalie? We'll see who steps up
Holy Angels, Big ? but labate and hurley will score alot. have a couple reliable D. have to see how underclassmen do. good reg season schedule
On the bubble....

When looking at last years stats for Edina, 6 of the top ten point getters are gone, along with one season ending injury from the elite league. I would say they lose quite a bit.

Still news to you? Get a clue. Of course if you plan on winning the Mr. Hockey, you will be counting high school stats.........Or do they use elite stats? I dunno, I forget.High Flyer wrote:season ending injury of ???? (new news to me)FREDFLINTSTONE wrote:The Best in the Bizz3 wrote:1. Edina (returning almost whole team)

What is going to make MG so good this year?
Maple Grove returns most of their important pieces from a team that made it to the Section Final last year.
Some good players who could step in from a very good JV team last year, and some very good players from last years Bantam A team that made it to state.
Last 2 years Bantam A team has made it to state and it should start to show this year and the next few at the High School level.
Goalie
Coyne- Last years starter, Elite League this year
Forwards
Bell- Section 17 team, Elite D League this year
Mason- Elite D league this year
Paulson- Advanced 16 team, Elite D league this year
Dunagan- Section 17 team
Wolden- As talented as any of these guys, hasn't received the accolades
Steman- Advanced 15 team, Elite League this year
Defensemen
Popowitz- Section 17 team
Freburg- Advanced 16 Final 51
Aspinwall- Advanced 16 Final 51, Elite D league this year
Gross- Advanced 15 team
I'm sure I'm missing some and these accomplishments mean nothing once they hit the ice, just saying many have noticed that the talent is there.
