Top 5 Regular Season Games for 2010-2011

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

What will be the top 5 most anticipated, hardest ticket to get games for the upcoming regular season? I know on mnhockeyhub.com they sure talked up the Duluth East at Apple Valley game as possibly one of those types of games.

Day 3 of the Edina Tournament for 3 reasons; 1) Two great games, 2) a Saturday just before the holidays (got to get in that holiday spirit eh?) and 3) Braemar West as the venue. Nice.

Sat., Dec. 18 6:00 p.m. Grand Rapids Elk River Braemar Ice Arena
Sat., Dec. 18 8:30 p.m. Eden Prairie Edina Braemar Ice Arena

These are all going to be really games. AV and East will be showcasing two of the best junior classes in the state. Breck and Sta should be good but i think breck will be down. We'll see if it's close. Hill v. WBL is a great rivalry but it has the potential to be a blowout and Holy Angels and Shattuck should be good. I think both teams are bit down but we'll see, Shattuck could be surprised just like they were last year.

Some great options so far.

Just about any night in the new Lake Conference should be well worth the price of admission.

And with the northern teams on the rise again, I'll put in my (admittedly biased) word for East-Cloquet, GR-Cloquet, and East-GR.

Holy Angels vs. Shattuck (2/9)
Maybe 4 to 5 years ago not a top 5 game this year.
East at Cloquet 12/16
East at Edina 12/29
Apple Valley at Eagan 1/6
Edina at Minnetonka 1/22

Top 5 games

AHA vs. Shattuck is not a top 5 game of the year. AHA will get blown off the ice. What about traditonal outstate rivalry games such as:

Grand Rapids vs. Cloquet to open the season on 11/30 or 1/18
Cloquet vs. East on 12/16 or 2/8
Roseau vs. Warroad on 1/13 or 2/1

As long as I'm throwing in shamelessly biased plugs, I'll add Duluth East vs. Duluth Central/Denfeld on January 3rd. It'll be the first high school game at the new DECC arena in Duluth; should make for a great atmosphere.

What is wrong with you boys playing your home games at Heritage? Amsoil should be for College games and section 7 playoff games.

Because we're rich and spoiled and want to play in the best available facility.

As great as the Heritage is, I think one or two big games at the Amsoil are a fun change of pace. This game in particular is a good one to have there, since it's the first of the 2 public HS era in Duluth and has a chance to draw a huge crowd.

Of course, with East playing a regular season game at the "Oil Can", someone will cry "Foul!! Home ice advantage!!" in the 7AA semis. Won't matter that East will be the higher seeded team and be designated the home team.

I agree, I think it's gonna be another one of those seasons where East gets the 1 seed and loses to #4 Cloquet in the semi-finals.

Then that would mean Cloquet knocking off #5 seed Rapids in the quarterfinals? Interesting scenario.

I think everyone picking their team against EP is a good sign for what's to come this year. EP Edina at the Holiday Classic is always packed. Usually a good showing against Jefferson too. I think all of our home Lake matchups minus Hopkins will also get a lot of people out to the rink. Now as I look at the schedule...there are a ton of great games. Hermantown, Benilde, HA all at home. Sleeper---EP first game, home opener against AV.
EP two out of three.

I hope you're right for the sake of MN hockey supremecy. I watched Shattuck at the NIT and they looked great so I have my doubts.
