Tough night for Tim in nets. The play was pretty even but a couple of weak goals hurt the Pioneers. Burnsville was solid. Not a bad first game for both clubs and it will be interesting to see how the teams develop throughout the season. HM has no superstars and will have to outwork teams to score goals. Came away impressed with Hill's 9th grader Wood. He didn't seem over-matched and liked to be physical...didn't expect that from a freshman. Also liked Guentzel. Wasn't as small as I heard he was did a nice job and scored his first goal tonight.

This won't be Hill's last loss of the year and won't be surprised if the streak with WB ends in December. However, Lex will bring this group along and play their best in March. Congrats to Burnsville on the win and good luck to the Pioneers this year.

It was a pretty back and forth game. Burnseville scored two quick goals, but from that point forward play went both ways. PPG is spot on; Hill has no super stars this year (the loss of Casto probably hurting them most). A number of young players looked good for Hill.

They were disallowed but they weren't really questionable calls in my opinion. Both calls were pretty obvious. But great game nonetheless, good early season win for the Blaze.

"Surprise" And I thought somebody said his save percentage in the Elite league was misleading.

One thing about Tim, is that he always plays well in sections.

How can you say they have no superstars when they had what, 7 or 8 guys playing for the Elites this past summer! I would think most teams in the state would consider a kid making the Elite team to be a superstar for their team.

For teams like HM, Edina, and Tonka, who have many Elite's on their team, maybe they don't consider that to be superstar status. But for WBL, Birkinbine and Wahlin are considered the stars of our team.

I don't think playing in the Elite League makes a player a Superstar. I think Birkinbine & Wahlin are fantastic hockey players & I suspect they will carry the Bears all season long. They clearly will separate themselves from others Hill has a lot of guys who are very good, but I don't see a player that is capable of carrying them. Hill's strength is depth and their scoring will be spread throughout their line-up. I don't see anyone dominating the score sheet for Hill. The lack of having a Superstar is not a knock, but rather an observation. Still like their club and like their chances to return to State.

Sounds very similar to their team that won state in 2008.

I agree. Every year he has the team at a high level competitively. They are always fun to watch. I give them a good chance at winning the lake this year.

They are not in the Lake conference anymore. They are in the new South Suburban conference. I agree that they will have a shot to win that conference with the biggest competition being Apple Valley and maybe Eagan.

Burnsville has had a talented group of h.s. players for the last several years going back to their 2006-07 team that went to State. Their youth program has done a great job of developing a lot of strong players/teams with most of their A and B1 level teams being very competitive the last 8-9 years. They play in one of the tougher districts and have performed well against strong teams from EP, Edina and others most of those years.

Given their new conference and the level of talent they have coming up each year, I would think they are favorites to compete for the conference title for the next several years.
