Fargo Force Peewee A tournament

Post by ALSANITI »

Anyone in Northwest Minnesota have opinions on the teams in this tournament?

Pool 1
Grand Forks Golden Eagles
Fargo Raiders
Fargo Flyers A Black
Minot Sabres

Pool 2
Fargo Angels
Sartel Sabres
Mandan Braves
Sioux Falls Flyers

I know it is a stretch to really know peewee teams this early in the year, but I thought I would give it a shot.

Alsaniti:

Here is my take on the tourney:

Minot and the Grand Forks Golden Eagles are peewee A teams skating in the North Dakota North League. The Golden Eagles have beaten a tough D16 Thief River Falls team 8-4 and the Fargo Raiders 6-2. Minot is an unknown.

The Fargo Flyers A Black have a win over Jamestown 2-1. They have lost to D8 Eagan 6-1, Grafton 3-0, the Grand Forks Seawolves 7-1 and the Fargo Angels Peewee A Red 5-1. The Fargo Raiders beat D8 Eagan 3-2, lost to D15 Moorhead Orange 7-1, and lost to Grand Forks Golden Eagles 6-2. The Flyers and the Raiders are both A teams in the North Dakota South League this year.

This pool looks to be dominated by the Golden Eagles unless Minot has a strong team. The Fargo Raiders should take second with Minot and the Flyers fighting for third.

The Fargo Angels Peewee A Red also play in the South League with the Flyers and the Raiders. The Red opened their season losing to D15 Alexandria 7-2. Last week they lost to D15 teams Detroit Lakes 5-0 and Brainerd 3-1 besides having beaten the Fargo Flyers A Black two weeks ago 5-1.

Sioux Falls Flyers are really Sioux Falls Blue. They played in the Mankato tourney over Thanksgiving beat New Ulm 5-2 and Rochester Gold 4-0 in pool play. In their third pool game, they lost to Kansas City Stars 5-2. They moved on to Championship Sunday and lost their opening game to D6 Shakopee 4-1. Mandan Braves are an A team that is also skating in the South League.

Sartell Sabres lost to Brainerd 6-1 two weeks ago. The Sabres are currently leading D5 with a 5-1 record their lone loss was at the hands of a tough St. Cloud team 6-0.

This pool is a tough one to predict. The Fargo Angels, Sioux Falls Blue and Sartell look to be evenly matched. Mandan is an unknown. The Angels appear to have the edge and should take #1, Sartell should take #2 and the Blue #3.

That would match the Grand Forks Golden Eagles against the Fargo Angels with the Golden Eagles winning. But a preferred match-up would be the Golden Eagles playing Sartell or Sioux Falls in the championship game rather than a team that one would play in their own league. In either case, this tourney looks like an early season test of teams headed for the North Dakota state tourney in Feb/Mar.
