its gonna be a hell of a section with a lot of talent. Definitely worth watching some 7a games, strong teams all around.

Who is gonna take the section this year?

whoever does will make a run at the X and represent 7a quite well

I would like to see Hibbing break the curse

Denfeld

Denfeld/Central win this hands down. twice the line up of any legitimate single A school. Pulling for Hibbing but think they will be out numbered during playoffs. Doubt the vaunted East team could beat Denfeld/Central this year.

While the consolidation will help Central with depth on the bottom end, I just don't think there are enough horses at the top end for this to be a state tournament team. When I see what Central had to offer and what Denfeld lost from last year, I just don't see them overtaking the likes of Virginia, Hibbing, or Duluth Marshall. Maybe an upset against one, but not enough to make a full run.

East does play Central this year (as always). In fact its scheduled for Jan. 3 @8:00PM in the new Amsoil Arena at the DECC, so we will find out for sure if thats the case! ... and I have a hard time seeing East losing that one.

As of now, here's my quick take on the section:

Virginia has a ton of very good seniors this year - all with two years of state tournament experience behind them... and two of them will be playing DI hockey in the future. They really only lost their #1 goalie, two defensemen, and two wings. The bulk of that team is back. My guess is they will likely be a preseason top 10 in the class A state rankings. Has to be the early favorite.

Duluth Marshall has a lot of good players back and always has some quality newcomers. They will be very deep and balanced offensively. If they adequately replace Elstad in goal, they will be very tough. Definite contender.

Hibbing has the high end talent in sophomore Adam Johnson and has a 3rd year starting goalie back in Nathan Tromp. This year's team looks a lot like the teams they have had the last two years. You know they'll be in it at the end. Contender.

Central will have Levi Talarico, and a good (but young) goalie, but lost nearly everybody else that were major contributors off the Denfeld team from last year. Not sure if any of the Central players would have cracked the 2nd line on most of the top teams last year, so other than maybe adding depth in a 3rd or 4th line, its not a huge gain with the consolidation. Still too good to call a dark horse, though. Contender.

If Eveleth is going to have an up year, this is probably it. They have a bunch of seniors and got pretty much all of their scorers back along with two goalies who have played varsity for 3+ years. Dark horse.

I Falls lost a ton and will probably be down this year. New coach might make things interesting to watch though. Dark horse.

The other four teams will likely remain in the play-in games again this year.

This statement seems very true. I can ultimately see either Virginia or Hibbing taking it to state once again but if Eveleth puts it together, could make a nice surprise.

Central will win this section hands down! they have 4 40+ point scorers coming back this year! Plus the best goalie in the state of minnesota in Zach Thompson! Sounds like a state bound team to me!

Yeah I just checked and there is nobody on the Duluth Central roster that had more than 37 points last year unless the MNHockeyHub roster and stats are just completely wrong.

And another thing, I've seen Zach Thompson play and he is very good for his age but he didn't even lead the conference in GAA or Save % last year and you are calling him the best in the state? Very bold

Talarico had 43 pts if you include their short run in sections. Wrazidlo had 40 pts including 0 in their big play off run. Den/Cent/feld/ral is so so this year I've seen them play. Thompson is their best bet for making any sort of run but he is still shakey at best. At least they will have a large amount of A Bantams coming in next year right?
