Virginia/MIB @ Grand Rapids 12/7
Two Top quality teams from section 7. Virginia ranked in the Top 10 in Class A and Grand Rapids ranked in the top 20 in Class AA battle it out at Grand Rapids arena in game 1 of 2 to see who is the better team and one step closer to gaining or regaining the IRC Title. With both teams off to a great start, who is going to win battle #1?
***Gametime is set for 7:30 at IRA Civic Arena, Grand Rapids.

Should be a good game. One thing I will say, I agree with Dave Esse, coach of CEC, when he said in an interview on mnhockeyhub.com that we need to get rid of this conference non-sense. Like he said, they mean nothing. Who cares about IRC or any other conference. Abolish every conference and set up the schedules so you play a home and away game against every team in your SECTION! Then there is no need for seeding meetings, you just go by standings.

Of course, us East people realized this a decade ago.

Virginia was flying on their 1st PP attempt and average on the rest. If GR stayed out of the box the game would of been much worse. Plus, GR must of had at least a dozen more great scoring chances.mnhockeynemn wrote:Relly???? Wow, never would have guessed that score??pipersniper12 wrote:Virgina-1

FINAL
GR had 8 or 9 penalties
I can see where you are from, chubbs, and I agree Rapids has a really nice team. It's scary that they will probably be better next year and the year after that - they should win the IRC - but who cares?? They are the only AA team and SHOULD win it every year. The fact that they haven't shows that the smaller schools have some talent too
Dude whats your deal? I have not once ripped on any school. I know northern hockey and to a lot of people the IRC is a big deal. I know virginia's, hibbings, and i falls youth programs coming up are weak. Rapids is strong. Therefore they will win a lot of IRC championships. I do not care about your statements. Mine had nothing to do with yours so chill out

Virginia's power play was terrible tonight, they have some major work to do there but on a positive note they played a pretty disciplined game and stayed out of the box for the most part which is good because with a score like that it's easy to loose your cool and get chippy, especially with two range teams going at it. Rapids has a really good team this year and yes, they should win the IRC conference, but I agree, who really cares about that? None the less I'll be cheering for them in 7AA

Grand Rapids 7 - Viriginia 1
Was surprised at how balanced the 3 lines were from Grand Rapids not much seperates the 3 on skill level. Virginia I thought had more depth than what they showed last night. One team is heading up and hopefully for Virginia they can squeeze out another good year in 7A but they are much leaner than last years team. To end discussion on big school, small school Grand Rapids qualifies for single A due to enrollment but elects to play up unlike a certain Duluth area school that hides out in single A on a technicality. Best wishes extended to both hockey clubs for the upcoming season.
