Only game in the area so I wandered over. Felt this was more like a 5-2 or 4-2 game. Windom goalie had a rough game. Marshall skates & moves the puck well, but Windom played a physical game which slowed down the Tigers. Quite a bit of the game was back & forth but you could tell that only having two lines was taking a toll on the Eagles. Can't wait for next Tuesday's game in Luverne. If the Cardinals play a physical game, I predict they will come out on top. Would not surprise me if Marshall & Luverne split games this year. Windom will be interesting to watch as the year progresses as they have alot of Sophs & Jrs.
WHAT GAME WERE YOU WATCHING? MARSHALL DOMINATED. SHOTS WERE 51-15.... MARSHALL CONTROLLED WINDOM. You can be as physical as you want but if the puck is consistently controlled by the other team and its in your zone the whole time, does it matter how many hits you throw? NO! That is another difference between Luverne hockey and real hockey. Hockey is a physical part of the game but, relying on physicality to win a hockey game is not a good strategy...

also a little fact for all of you who think Marshall is running up the score. In the game against Windom Marshall didnt hardly even play the top line of HAUKOM STEGNER ANTONY...so you can talk sportsmanship all you want... also.... Last years leading scorer WILLETT hasnt sniffed a goal.. VANDERZIEL has 1 goal? and i think antony and haukom have one a piece...

Marshall can and will score from everywhere.

14 Players have a goal this season for marshall.. 14! In 2 games and a total of 26 goals.. equal distribution... So dont say they are running up the score with their top lines... ... Will 14 players from luverne have a goal this SEASON?!! psshh.. I would be surprised if 7 players from luverne finish the SEASON with 1 goal.... Marshall is the only team in the SW with any depth on the roster.. and i would say only NU has about the same or more depth than Marshall. NEW2HOCKEY--- ITS comin... play as physical as you want.... physical doesnt win hockey games... speed and goaltending wins hockey games. luverne has neither.

also... impressive.. Morris Benson beats Willmar... Willmar has a big skilled senior class this year... Morris goalie won them a game... Morris could be #2 in SW conf. behind Marshall.

Your pretty high on marshall for them only having wins over worthington and windom, luverne may not be as talented or have as much depth but they'll take advantage of their oppurtunities and make the game with marshall a very fun one to watch.

Marshall 1 - Hutch 4

I liked how Hutch played in this game. Looks like they have some new skilled players that will help them this year. Shots on goal were about even.

Hutch may be better then predicted. Johnson played solid in the net and defense shut Marshall down at times. Three power play goals from Hutch.

Bettman, what happened in this game? Not rubbing your nose in it, just curious about what you feel went wrong. Your predictions have Marshall ahead of Hutch.

Right now to me it looks like this:
1: New Ulm
2: Litch/DC
3: Hutch
4: Luverne
5: Marshall
6: Redwood
7: Sleepy Eye
8: Fairmont
9: Windom
10: Worthington

Section 3A Rankings Week #2

Post by Section 3A HockeyScout »

Greetings Section 3A Followers,

Well another week is done and the results shook up the rankings just a little bit. The game of week went to Hutchinson. Hutchinson proved they should not be taken lightly this year.

Some big games on the horizon this week should be fun to see what happens!

Week #2 Section 3A Rankings
1. New Ulm (1-0-1)
2. LDC (2-0-0)
3. Hutchinson (1-0-0)
4. Marshall (2-1-0)
5. Luverne (1-0-0)
6. Redwood Valley (1-2-1)
7. Sleepy Eye (1-0-0)
8. Fairmont (0-1-0)
9. Windom (0-2-0)
10. Worthington (0-2-0)

New Ulm- Had a big win over New Prague and tied a very good upcoming AA Prior Lake program. Really nice week. Now they play a lot of Section 3A Teams coming up will be fun to see how they match up. I really feel the Eagles are just too good for everyone else this year.

LDC- Two blowout wins. Showed that Redwood is not in the same league as them putting up almost 70 shots!! Then pounded a Morris/Benson team that just got done knocking off Willmar. The Dragons look good out of the gates.

Hutchinson- Great win for the Tigers. That will be huge come seeding time. Hutchinson is till very young up front be they have some very talented players. I really like those Adams boys. Johnson looks to be a solid presence in the nets.

Marshall- Had a dominate start to the week then a big thud in Hutchinson. Too many penalties for the Marshall. The game was even back and forth but you have to stay of the box to win those tight games its early they will have to learn.

Luverne- Only beat a bad Austin program 5 to 3 ??? Not a very good start for the cardinals. Will be tested this week as they play the team above them and below them in the rankings.

Redwood Valley- Got hammered by LDC but was able to beat a bad Worthington 10-2. Still not sure on this team. I know they are not close too the top 4 teams. But they could be the best of the rest.

Sleepy Eye- Is 1-0-0 good start for them. Beat Becker/Big Lake 3 to 1 good start for the Indians.

Fairmont- Lost to St. Peter 5 to 1. The jury is still out on these guys but they need to not take so many penalties.

Windom- Lost 10 to 2…..Then Lost too Mankato East 5 to 4…. Ouch

Worthington- Has been outscored 26 to 2 in only 2 games……

Big Games this week
Luverne vs Marshall- A lot of talking between these two teams. I think the Tigers give Luverne a reality check

Windom vs Worthington; Battle of the cellar dwellers someone has to get a win!!

Redwood Valley vs Luverne- Rematch of last years Section Playoff Upset Redwood will have revenge on their minds.

Section 3A Game of The Week
New Ulm vs Marshall- A chance for Marshall this week to solidify they are in the top 4 of this section. As for New Ulm I am pretty sure they are sick and tired of hearing about how the Tigers beat them twice last year. Should be a fun one!!

Another week here we come!

Who are the best lines, D pairs and goalies in Section 3A this year? With a lot of the section being so close, I think this would be interesting...

Yeah that guy( or man child) never did beat Redwood last year. However i do recall a certain team from Luverne beating them. I also do recall that last year was LAST year. And while my memory is kinda shaky nowadays (due to my rock and roll lifestyle) i do think some team with an L and a D and i think a C ran train on Redwood a few days back.. course im not sure exactly. I would appreciate it though if my helpful brothers on this forum would tell me exactly what happened to Redwood?

6TH MAN... post more often.

well redwood.. beat..... Worthington..

hahahahahah... good job redwood. dmx.. remember the games you beat Marshall, because its not gonna happen again for you buddy.

Hanson is a good player, one of the best in the section. Works his bags off, but after that. Redwood is drawing pretty shallow. I see them finishing fourth in the SW behind Marshall, Luverne, Morris.

Morris might have a decent squad this year. Picht and hansen are dangerous players for them.

Marshall 4 Luverne 2

Marshall 4 Luverne 2

Well Marshall came to town last night. They have a very nice team and really took it too Luverne in the First period. Shots were 11 to 1 in the Tigers favor they completely dominated the period and were up 3 to 0.

Second period was back and forth with both teams getting a lot of chances. Marshall was able to get one more on the power play. After they went up 4 to 0 it was all Luverne the rest of the night. shots ended up 10 to 8 in favor of Luverne for the period.

The third period was all Luverne they finally were able to break through and score two goals. After that the Tigers really just hung on. Luverne had numerous chances to get that all important 3rd goal. But Noble from Marshall was very strong made some outstanding saves down the stretch. Luverne outshot the Tigers 15 to 4 in the third period.

Shots ended up 26 to 23 in favor of Luverne.

Couple impressions you could tell it was Marshall's 4th game already they looked very good. I was impressed. Moved the puck well and had great support around the puck all night.

Luverne was outmatched in the first period but at about the midway point of the second they took over the game. It was all Luverne in the Third they seemed to wear out marshall.

Marshall's only flaw is they play way too undisciplined took 10 penalties last night. I was talking to a Marshall parent I know who said they took 8 on saturday against Hutchinson. Thats not going to get it done need to play smarter.

I thought the freshman from Luverne in nets looked really good for the most part held Luverne in the game early on gave them a chance to win.

The better team won the game hats off to Marshall and good luck on Thursday vs New Ulm.

Luverne needs to continue playing their frosh goalie. He's the best they got, he is not a good varsity goalie now, but he'll be outstanding come his junior/ senior year.

cant have too many 10 penalty games and expect to win, thats for sure.

The fresh tendy will be very good by his junior year. Up and coming program Luverne is.

anyways NU in Marshall tomorrow night. Marshall beat them twice last year so I think they'll be playing with a chip on their shoulders.

Any other thoughts?

marshall needs to stop taking so many penalties. There is a huge difference between Luverne's PP and NU's. If the tigers dont control themselves this could very well turn into a blowout.

Week #3 Section 3A Rankings

Post by Section 3A HockeyScout »

Greetings Section 3A Followers,

Well another week is done and mother nature really put a dent in a lot of teams games on Saturday.. The game of week went to New Ulm. New Ulm proved they are the favorites right now to win this section.

Some big games on the horizon this week should be fun to see what happens!

Week #3 Section 3A Rankings
1. New Ulm (3-0-1)
2. LDC (4-0-0)
3. Hutchinson (1-1-0)
4. Marshall (3-2-0)
5. Luverne (1-1-0)
6. Redwood Valley (1-3-1)
7. Sleepy Eye (2-0-0)
8. Fairmont (0-3-0)
9. Windom (1-2-0)
10. Worthington (0-3-0)

New Ulm- Crushed Fairmont and then had a convincing win on the road in Marshall. They have some big games this week right now the Eagles look very good.

LDC- Another week and two more wins for the Dragons they look really good right now. It will be fun once they match up with some of the better teams in Section 3A

Hutchinson- Kind of head scratching loss to Shakopee but nothing that will hurt their ranking. Only one game this week and it’s a big one vs. New Ulm!!

Marshall- Tigers are very quickly solidifying a 4 seed in this section. They are better then the bottom half but don’t seem to matchup with the top 3. Have three big games this week. They will entertain the foreign exchange sensation on Tuesday.

Luverne- Got beat pretty soundly by Marshall. Tough to get a good read on these guys so far. Only two games neither result impressive at all.

Redwood Valley- Got beat by Waconia man oh man does one season make a big difference these guys are a shell of what they were last year.

Sleepy Eye- Is 2-0-0 great start for them. The Indians could be on the move up in my rankings very soon.

Fairmont- Lost two more games last week. Fairmont could make some big noise with win able games against Luverne and Worthington.

Windom- Beat Worthington…But they were out shot ???

Worthington- Outshot Windom …… but got hammered 7 to 2??

Big Games this week
Luverne vs Fairmont- I smell upset here Fairmont beat them twice last year and I think they pull out a big win on Tuesday.

Redwood Valley vs Marshall- The Tigers have not been able to beat Redwood in the last few years and it ha cost them two conference titles. Look for the Tigers to roll in this one.

Section 3A Game of The Week
New Ulm vs Hutchinson- Huge game in Section 3A the past two champions square off and what will be a huge game for seeding. This will be fun one to watch and I can’t wait to go watch it!

Another week here we come!

I agree with you that luverne will win big over fairmont and that marshall will beat redwood badly. I'll take nu by 2, nu looks to be a very good team but they get too comfortable with 1,2 and 3 goal leads.

Marshall Beats Mankato West and shuts down the foreign exchange sensation ville rantanen tonight... 2-1 in OT....

Big win for Marshall...even tho it is non-section non-conference... Shots were even 24-22 favoring Marshall.

Redwood 8... Windom 5..... that sounds like an ugly game...

Morris beats sleepy eye ... 12-2... sleepy eye has a much more competitive team this year.. watch out for morris in the SW. they could make some noise... beat willmar earlier too..

New Ulm 1 Hutch 0 .... shots favor New Ulm 26-14.... Hutch has a good goaltender, much better than anyone predicted.

The top teams in this section are very very close in my opinion... top 4.... all capable of beating each other on any given night.... gonna be a great run down the stretch.

First, the shots are always a little skewed when playing in marshall, i wasn't there and am not trying to take away from their win because thats a huge win for them, but i'm sure they're goaltending won them that game and they were outshout... regardless though great win for them.

Secondly, i wouldn't call hutch's goalie good he's decent at best, not as good as nu, marshall, or probably litch's (haven't seen them play yet). After watching hutch play though they seem pretty solid just need to find someone to start creating more scoring opportunities for them. I see it coming down to them and nu, and nu goes back to the X with the better goalie.

Litch is probably right there too just need to see how they match up against the other top teams. At this point i know they've had some good games and close ones with other top teams but i don't see marshall as a serious contender they're just the best of the rest but that could change if they're goaltender got hot and was playing even better than he has so far come playoff time, but for now i see them as the best of the rest and this section as a three horse race.

I also disagree with the nu shots thought there was more than that for both teams?
