I think the Meyer situation has the potential to get some testosterone going...

The defense is very young (only 1 senior and 1 other returning regular), but it has potential. Their inexperience might be part of why we're seeing more shots for the opposition in the early going. That's just a guess, though; Thursday will be the first time I see the Hounds in person this year.

More info to chew on: Not including playoffs, East is 4-2 at home against Cloquet in the past 6 years, while 2-3-1 at Cloquet. And even those two wins, which came in the past two years, are closer than one might expect--East beat Cloquet 6-1 and 7-0 at home those two years, but the scores were 4-2 and 4-3 at the CARC.

Meyer became a nonentity when he decided life might not be fair at DE, so he picked up his sticks and moved in with a relative in Cloquet. I know he is still friends with the DE kids, but they will be far from obsessed with him on the ice. He has 10 goals this year but half of them were in the Cambridge game and the others against Princeton and Proctor. On a positive note it seems he hasn't spent much time in the penalty box this year.

Nice kid that played way too much hockey and peaked too early.

East PK has worried me.. Their #s are descent , but they look shaky to me.. Especially in a game like this with such a huge rivalry, anything can go

Yea but with all respect to both teams.. When the games were close, CEC was actually good, and East was , subpar ( if you can even call east that ) .. Not making excuses at all , but they were much more evenly matched..

No power play goals for East, but Trevor Olson scored two short-handed goals which took the life out of the Lumberjacks. Well, not all their life, they still had enough for (surprise!) a little scrum at the end of the game. Meyer (another surprise!) was on the ice when this happened.

Good win for East but the margin should have been larger.

Who cares. DE won the game in dominating fashion.

Lee covered the game pretty well. Cloquet had a nice PP going when they were down by 1 in the 1st, but then East sprung Olson for his first shorty and that pretty much ended it. East was on cruise control through the 2nd and 3rd periods. East rolled 3 pretty good-looking lines all night; Cloquet doesn't have much beyond Meyer and McFarlane.

We had to wait until the end for the much-anticipated scrum involving Meyer. East threw an extra little celebration in front of their goal after the fight, which probably won't be forgotten when these two teams meet in Duluth in February.

It was a nice win, and worth the trip--certainly the easiest East has had in Cloquet in my memory--but East is capable of more. And based on the result coming out of Edina tonight, they may need to give more--Rapids is definitely a legitimate contender for the section and a top team in the state.

What do you think of the Freshman #20 Karson Kuhlman? I haven't seen a Freshman as delightful to watch for Cloquet in years. Look for him to have a very bright future...
Cloquet simply didn't come to play the first period. I thought that Cloquet seemed afraid to make that backdoor pass the Hounds are so good at making. It may be the defensive coaching style of Esse or selfishness but that needs to change. I can recall two or three times the first line for Cloquet had a tap in back door, but the player decided to shoot it rather than dish it to a teammate for the easy finish. As for East I thought they showed tremendous depth. Every line is a scoring threat. One of the deepest East teams I've seen in awhile. Their power play looks great, they move the puck well and no one on their team seems selfish. East is also phenomenal at crashing the net. Miers Moore is one of the better Sophomore defenseman I have seen in awhile. East is definitely the better team this year, but Cloquet will be a very strong team in the next couple of years (I just really hope Esse knows what to do with all the talent he will have). Can't wait for round 2. Cloquet should be much improved with all the youth on their squad and same goes for East.
