#1 Eden Prairie @ #4 Edina 12/17
And I emphasize the at Edina. This game has been a nightmare for the Eagles for the last four or five years but they may have their most talented group ever. Should be packed at Braemer for this late 8:30 start. I'll take EP by two but anything can happen in this rivalry. Who you got?
EP two out of three.

It's not just the Kyle Rau show anymore. David Rath is a legitimate star and considering Mark Rath has identical genetic potential he could have a huge game at any point too. Then you have Molenaar and Seeler and Curt Rau on D and before you know it the whole team's rolling.iamsimple wrote:Eden Prairie wins 6-5. Kyle Rau with 5 goals 1 assist

*These refs were Edina grads, currently live in Edina, and have kids that attend Edina schools. I don't think, however, their sons skate for Edina. That would be too much.

It was a great game. EP had their way early but could only get one while dominating play. Gradually the play evened out as Edina improved. Edina was on the PP in the third and EP clearly tripped two Edina players on scoring chances with no call, but Edina finally got the go-ahead anyway to go up 2-1, then EP came right back on the wrap-around to tie it again. Pretty physical game with many scrums around the goals. Glad it didn't get any worse. A little disappointed in the crowd as it was no where near full (though not disappointed when I had to get out of the parking lot at the end).

great game...
ep dominated up till about 5 minutes left in first period. then edina began to play physical and because of that they may have outplayed ep by a little the remainder of the game.
the refs turned a blind eye on several calls on both teams and were a non factor in the outcome. had they not turned a blind eye the game would have constantly had someone in the box. in my opinion they called a great game; let some stuff go but not enough so the game got out of hand.
both goalies had some very good saves. the series of saves edina goalie (team mates) made before the "brawl" was hard to believe. i thought the puck was in the net at least twice and i think ep did as well.
ep has more talent and depth but edina is edina.
what a conference: ep, edina, minnetoka and wayzata..........

Absolutely. I'm just pointing out to the Edina haters who claim the refs are biased towards Edina that they had plenty of grade A opportunities to favor the Hornets which they did not take!siouxforce19 wrote:No calls went both ways though.C-dad wrote:Not bitter or envious at all are you?skiumah wrote:Scores

Re: great game...
Didn't let the game get out of hand, but then there's a brawl???cigar wrote:the refs turned a blind eye on several calls on both teams and were a non factor in the outcome...in my opinion they called a great game; let some stuff go but not enough so the game got out of hand....the series of saves edina goalie (team mates) made before the "brawl" was hard to believe.

It was an intense game, both sides played well. Edina has spurts, but EP was much more consistent throughout. The only problem I saw with the ref was during the "brawl." It would have been just like any other tussle around the net, but the refs didn't break it up after the first punch. They let it go for a lot longer than they should have. Great game, didn't expect Edina to win it though.
"brawl"
there is a reason for "brawl" to be enclosed in paranthesis..... it wasn't a brawl, not even close. mostly the typical pushing, shoving, hugging with a couple of punches. hard to say the refs did or didn't attempt to take charge soon enough since none of us were on the ice in the heat of what was happening.
extremely frustrating point in time for ep not getting a goal and edina throwing every body in the crease area in attempts to keep the puck out of the net.
IMHO it could have been a lot worse than it was....

And there was the CLEAR GOAL by Edina that went in BEFORE contact with the EP goalie and net that was waved off too. My point remains the refs had lots of opportunities to lean the ice Edina's way and they didn't. I thought the reffing was pretty good and not biased either way. Stuff was let go both ways, as it should be. The game did NOT get out of hand either.HockeyMN1 wrote:The no-calls hurt EP. So did the CLEAR GOAL not given to the Eagles in the play after the brawl. You can't just call nothing.

I thought it was a pretty intense game, especially for mid-December. I didn't think it was the best played game; seemed like some missed passes, etc., but thought it was played really hard.
I thought the refs did a good job as well; definitely let them play. And I was glad that they didn't toss anyone out after the 2nd period tussle. There definitely were some punches thrown by both sides.
I will say one thing about the tussle....It involved 5 Edina players (goalie got the heck out of there) and only 4 EP players. The other Rau was sitting at the blue line, simply watching it all go down. Way to lead with that C on your jersey! He didn't have to be in there mixing it up or punching or anything like that, but he should have been down there grabbing another Edina guy's jersey. Just be down there. I think both teams already have too many guys with a C on their jersey (I'm old school, I like one C and one A, maybe 2 A's, and that's about it), but I'd say that he shouldn't be wearing one. Rau #1 & Molenaar should be the only one's wearing it after that. Got to have your teammate's backs.
As for the rest of the game, K. Rau can dangle out there, impressed with Molenaar, although I thought he looked gassed as the game got late and Edina had a good scoring chance late plus the eventual OT winner caused by getting to Molenaar either right as he got to the puck or just after causing a turnover. Thought EP had more of the action in the Edina zone in the 2nd, but didn't have a huge ton of scoring chances (until the power play when they had probably 10 in a 3 second span). I thought Edina took it up a notch in the 3rd & OT and showed that they can play with & beat anybody.
Good December game.

Be kind. Rewind.
Get your facts straight before you start questioning a kid's character. There were 5 EP players on the ice when the scrum started - Molenaar, Seeler, M. Rath, D. Rath and K. Rau. C. Rau came off the bench and wisely stayed out of the fracas.Doc Holliday wrote:I thought it was a pretty intense game, especially for mid-December. I rewatched it on FoxHockey and you're right and I was wrong. He jumped off the bench, but didn't jump into the tussle. I simply saw him standing on the blue line when things were starting to get separated. Don't think it was wise to hop out onto the ice, but wise not to go into it off of the bench for sure.shakey wrote: Get your facts straight before you start questioning a kid's character. Admitting that I was wrong and probably won't be the last time! Still feel there are too many "C's" out there though.
