Missota Conference
The obvious favorite is AHA, and there is no reason that they shouldn't win the conference, by a long shot. But they did almost lose to Chanhassen, had to get to overtime to beat them. I know it was Holy Angels first game of the year but still suprising. It was Chanhassen's first ever conference game and they almost beat AHA to give them first conference loss in something like 6 years? Don't know how many to be exact. But this conference could be interesting with the rest of the teams. Who will the other top two teams be? Will AHA lose a conference game for the first time in years..
There alot of teams looking to be towards the top of the standings all year.
-New Prague is usually 2nd or 3rd every year, and they look to stay up there this season. They won their opener over Chaska (needing a 3 goal 3rd period to win)
-Chanhassen looks to be competitive as they almost won their first conference game ever. Don't know much else about them.
-Northfield who has found themselves towards the bottom the last 2 years but look to get back towards the top of the standings with their strong senior class. They won their conference opener 4-1 over Red Wing.
-Shakopee has not had success in late years, but they look to have a decent squad this season. They had been playing a tough non conference scedchule losing some close games to good teams, they did however drop their first conference game 6-1 to Farmington...

Agree that Holy Angels is the prohibitive favorite. The only question is will this be the year they lose a game. It has been about 10 years - I think Red Wing when Johnny Pohl was playing was the last to beat them. You seem to have it pretty well on the rest of the conference. New Prague showed Friday what they can do when they play hockey and stop taking stupid penalties. The question is, will the lesson stick.

No. Seems like the freshman line is the most consistant contributers. That doesnt say much for the upper classmen who are suppose to lead the team in scoring not penalties. Chaska is middle of the road talent this year at best!hockeydad wrote:Agree that Holy Angels is the prohibitive favorite. The only question is will this be the year they lose a game. It appears that all teams will be competitive in the Missota Conference this season. Farmington might be the most improved team here early in the season. New Prague will be there come the end of the year, its a long season as we all know. Chanhassan obviously will give some teams fits all year as witnessed against AHA. Should be fun, we will know much more come about the middle of February. Good luck to all teams.
Tuesday January 30, 2001 Red Wing beat Holy Angels in Red Wing.

More "newsworthy" coverage of high school hockey in the Star Tribune today - Holy Angels fires 59 shots; 8 connect. What an incredible effort by AHA to best yet another overmatched opponent (Farmington). Let's see, the last time AHA lost a conference game was 2000-01. It's hard to believe that the StarTrib would send a staff report and photographer to cover a meaningless contest like this one. Is there nothing more compelling in high school hockey to write about? Wow.
