Duluth East (6-1) vs Edina (5-2) 12-29-10 8pm

Post by HShockeywatcher »

This is probably the 1st round match up of the best two teams. Both teams have a 1 goal loss in Wayzata and would love to prove themselves.

Both teams play either Breck or Hill Murray the following day.

This game is going to be a Spotlight Game on the MN Hockey Hub, as well. Should be a great chance for Duluth East to show it deserves Karl's No. 2 ranking :) or for Edina to jump back near the top.

Games at the X the last couple years were $12 with the option for a 3 day pass.
But no, I do not know about this year.

The video is available online, but it costs $8.95: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/nsc.portal#

Otherwise the Hub is giving updates, and I'll try to give some between periods too.

Edina wins 4-3. Shots were something like 20-17 in Edina's favor.

Edina dominated the first and went up 1-0 (shots 10-3); East really took over the rest of the game, but ugliness on defense cost them in this one. They stormed back in the 3rd to tie it with 2 VERY pretty goals by the East top line, but another turnover deep in their own zone led to the game winner by Edina.

East's top line looked great out there, and the other two did some fine work. Their problems, however, are on defense...they simply cannot give away so many pucks. There is a lot of talent on that D unit, but it is young. If they can grow into their roles as the season goes on, I think this team will be very capable of beating anyone in the state.

As I mentioned in the scores thread, Edina's depth is remarkable, and their defensemen got the job done, which was the difference in this one. However, in watching them, I often get the impression that they're just a bunch of supremely talented individuals flying somewhat haphazardly around the ice. Teams that put together three steady periods can beat them, and they're sure to get plenty of PP opportunities. That said, if Edina can come together more as a team, I like their chances to repeat.

I'm very, very curious to see what they can do against Hill, since Hill is exactly that sort of disciplined team that is well-built to bring them down.

For East, Breck is up next; after Breck's loss today I like East's chances, but they need to keep the pressure up and not get down after this loss, or take Breck for granted--they did knock the Hounds off in the Schwan Cup Silver 2 years ago.

What was the deal with both these teams playing their back up netminders last night. Jo Jo wasn't even on the bench last night for the Hounds. Hurt or something else? Edina why no Connor?
