St Thomas beat the Bears in a hard fought OT game, while Duluth East beat the Mustangs in a very evenly matched game. Two quality teams looking to go 2-1 in the Schwan's Cup.

Cant wait to see this one.. Not Easts worst performance at the Cup, as they only lost in great Edina game, and have the chance to take out the top 2 schools in "A"

With the results coming in this week, I'm tempted to say no one is as dominating as we all thought... (except maybe EP)

STA is a good team--heck, with the parity in AA this year, they might even have a shot at the top 10. Also, the days of East outshooting other good teams by 20 are over--the defense is a bit shakier, so more shots get through, and they have more of a finesse offense, instead of throwing tons of pucks on net and hoping for the best, as they have for the past few years.

Their success this year will depend on how well they can shore up that defense in the next two months. If they do it well, they could win it all. But they could also drop in the section semis...

You ain't kidding. I think a section final between East and Rapids this year will have the excitement and tension of the final in 1995 when Rapids had Aaron Miskovich and East had Locker and Spehar. The semi-finals should be great too. That Saturday of the semi's there is a lot going on at the DECC facilities. Hockey games at Amsoil, Lake Superior Family Funfest and a country band that night at the DECC. I'm hoping the other two events along with other hockey fans checking in will get it close to a sell out.

rapids, you might get your wish the way Cloquet is coming on of late. I expect to see East, GR, Cloquet, Forest Lake at the AMSOIL in February semi final. If it happens to be and East-Cloquet semi final thent expect a big crowd.

My hope for the semi finals:

Noon - 1. Grand Rapids vs. 4. Forest Lake
2:30 - 2. Duluth East vs. 3. Cloquet

Having East/CEC as the later game would mean a larger crowd for Rapids and Forest Lake. I also think Forest Lake's fans travel better than Elk River's.

That was a classic game.. the Spehar/Miskovich battle that night was worth the admission alone.. Ive been trying to find a video of that game for years.. :(
