Minnetonka (6-2-1) vs Hill-Murray (6-2-1) 1-1-11 8pm

Post by HShockeywatcher »

4 years ago Minnetonka played in the Bronze Division in their first year in Schwan's Cup and allowed 1 goal winning the tournament. The following year they won the Gold Division, got 3rd the year after and last year beat Edina to win their 3rd Schwan's Cup title in 4 years.

This year they will play another team in blue to try for their 4th Schwan's Cup title in 5 years. Going into Saturday's game, they are 12-1-1 in Schwan's Cup games.

The Hill Murray Pioneers shut out a great Class A opponent and played a great game against last year's State Champion to earn their spot in the Championship game Saturday night.

The two times these two teams have met in the Schwan's Cup Minnetonka has won, 4-1 in the finals in 07-08 and 3-1 in the quarters in 08-09.

Good luck to both teams.

I'm basing this prediction somewhat off of last year's state game.

Hill seems to have returned a deeper more experienced team from last year than Minnetonka has, so if this has any effect on the matchup between these two I think that Hill has to be the favorite.

I wouldn't mind another thriller like last time though.

4-2 Hill, we'll see if my reasoning holds true.

I'm afraid Skips might be overmatched. 5-1 HM.

All tonka's games have been one goal games except for the blow out win. Expect a one goal game.

This should be a close game considering that Tonka lost to Benilde 2-1 and HM lost to Benilde 3-1

I voted Hill Murray because Tonka calls their team "Skippers"

I mean really?

Tonka's luck will run out today. They benefited greatly by being on the weaker side of the bracket. Hill should win this one easily. 6-2 Hill.

HM has an axe to grind from last year state at the X. HM will be very pumped up.

Tonka still has good threats. If the teams play even strength majority of game, it will be a thriller.

I take HM 3-1 based on the past few games they have played.

I know, right? There's certainly nothing manly with commanding a vessel or aircraft. Too bad they coudn't have been more creative and gone with something like wildcats or eagles and have a bird or fierce animal on their sweater. Now that would be original and deserve praise for never having been done before. And I bet you're not a Gophers fan given how wimpy that animal is when instead you could back the mighty tough badger, razorback or wolverine.

Let's talk about color combinations next...

Whatever happens this game, I say these teams are part of the top three in the state, along with Eden Praire.

Top 5 I could agree with, but you can't forget about Wayzata either.

You can't forget about Edina. I would say these teams are top 7, definitely not top 3

Tonka vs. Hill

Post by blueblood »

As NB05 stated, these 2 teams are definetly top teams that have the make-up to go far come playoff time.

Hill probably has the easier path come play-off time as WBL has slipped as of late, but Stilly is showing that they can compete.

Probably more important for Tonka to win this game, as they have already lost to BSM and Stilly, and they have 6 conference games with EP, Edina & Wayzata coming up.

Hill's remaining schedule is not as deep due to their conference games and the fact they already beat WBL.

Hill's depth really showed tonight. They fell behind early but kept working. Lex rolled his 3 lines & spotted the 4th, primarily in the 3rd period. Fresh legs seemed to wear the Skippers down. Tonka is a solid club and it was a fun game to watch. Pioneers are working hard right now, much different than when the season beagn. Thurs will be another major test. Edina, Minnetonka, and EP, would make for a great trifecta!

Very fun game to watch. I come away impressed with HM's balance, really made the difference because it looked like Tonka had full control the 1st half of the game.
Great event!
