South Saint Paul Packers
I have not seent the Packers play this year but i saw the scores between STA (4-2) and Hill (4-2), are the Packers good this year? Did anyone go to either of these games and how were they?
Re: South Saint Paul Packers
They're a solid, gritty team. They will make 4A interesting, although STA outshot them 2-1 in the recent 4-2 game, and are definitely the better team. Still I would say SSP is a top 10 team in class A. Probably could have been in the top 3-5 had they not lost their top 3 players to juniors.mustangs29 wrote:I have not seent the Packers play this year but i saw the scores between STA (4-2) and Hill (4-2), are the Packers good this year? Those top 3 players (wilcox, pilot, and young) weren't getting any help playing 6 games a year against Richfield, Sibley, and Simley.johnnyquest wrote:. . . . . . and why do you think they lost their top 3 players to juniors ?
The team would be a very clear 3rd-best team in the CSC this year with those 3 players. They'd probably give STA and Hill a couple good games, too and would make a great 2A final vs. STA.
HM - SSP
I was at the game Saturday night. I really like their captain Adam Barlow. He's a big strong talented player. Unfortunately for SSP they were not that close to HM. Shots were 25-8, HM hit 3 pipes and the score was 4-1 through 2 periods. 4 penalties on HM in the 3rd kept the shot total and score closer. Shots ended 29-12 and SSP scored the only 3rd period goal off HM's backup goalie. I see STA outshot them 37-17. To their credit they battle hard, play tough D, they do create offensive chances and Palmquist didn't leave many rebounds. They are capable of knocking off HM or STA when they come to Wakota. They could go 18-7 or so & be the #2 seed in 4A.

SSP
SSP is better than people think. Hill's top 3 lines were 2-2 against them. They played solid D making Hill take weak shots from the outside.
Yes, an Empty netter from the other zone. SSP is gritty, And can make a run in the sections if a few bounces go there way. Palmquist has been playing very well. They have to stay out of the box.

SSP is competitive.

I'll say. It's things like this that really make people question leaving high school for juniors. I'm not at all going to claim they made the wrong choice, but leading their city to a potentially undefeated season, and state trophy is something I would think one would never forget.puckster15 wrote:I believe STA game included an empty net goal. They have 4 losses, by a total of 8 goals, one EN. I'm guessing with 3 players in juniors back they could've closed that gap quite well.

I see Austin Young has commited to UMD. Austin is just a Jr. You think UMD would have been willing to offer him had he been playing at SSP this year?HShockeywatcher wrote:I'll say. I'm not questioning them individually. Juniors definitely develops them better. As a STA alumnus and Gopher fan, I am very glad Wilcox left. He will most likely be a much better player next year.johnnyquest wrote:the 3 players who left for juniors are gone- their reasons for leaving aren't the issue here - they are gone and s.s.p. is what it is.
you really have no right questioning why they made the decisions they made (leaving for jrs) your not in "their shoes."
I just made the comment that it makes you wonder. Look at the 9-2 red/black team. Would they be better with their player who left? Sure. Is he getting more development now? Probably. But the "sure"s and "probably"s aren't yeses and nos. Just fuel for discussion, no disrespect intended.

Not this early, but he would of had an offer in HS. With the offer in hand I bet he would choose to go back to his HS team, if he could.High Flyer wrote:I see Austin Young has commited to UMD. I think your wrong. I just looked at the river heights website and out of the top 4 scorers 2 are froom ssp and 2 from IGH. The top scorer is from igh and has about 10 more points than anyone else. But look at his +/- it is the same as the 2nd most point person. I also heard he may not even go to Simley next year. When will IGH play some real teams? Play everyone in the Classic suburban twice and then see where you end up.

Next year, the confrence voted on it last year and decided they wouldnt play simley twice because they couldnt field a jv last year, but they have a full squad this year which hasnt been playing that bad.
