Section 4A just got more interesting

Post by Hockeywatcher123 »

At the begining of the season i thought that this section was clearly STA's but now with totino beating Breck by 3(a team that STA had to comeback on) it looks like this section may be up for grabs now. right now could you even justify giving totino the #1 seed?

i dont think you can give anybody the number 1 seeding until the season is over. totino beat chisago by one. they came back in the third and won it in the last 5 minutes or so. if you look at the scores, theres a lot of ups and downs and i think its going to be a good section playoffs

This is a very deep section, probably 2nd or 3rd deepest in the state. Seeding could get very fishy. Chisago only plays Totino and Maht only plays STA/SSP. I suspect St Thomas will be everyone and be the clear #1, but how to seed things after them will get very subjective.

This section (and 2A) are examples of why I wish there were more universal seeding rules. In both of these sections, the higher seeds will generally have huge advantages, especially the #1 over the #2.

all i can say is that the seeding after sta if you really think they have it on lock, is going to be pretty close all around...calling for a close playoffs to the state tourny

I'm not saying they are a lock, I simply think they will be the top seed. Even if they lose one game (losing to TG may be iffy) it will be difficult with their bulk of work for the season to put them lower. After that, how do you say who's better between SSP and TG? Very difficult imo. Or maht/CLA? Also difficult.

Home ice won't matter as all 4A games this year are at Aldrich.
maht/cla match will be huge, and hard to predict. As will ssp/tg.

STA should beat maht/cla winner. The final will be a great game; hopefully televised.

IMO, the STA/TG game will decide the #1 seed. Period.
As long as Breck keeps winning, the loser will be #2 unless they stumble in a section game (STA to SSP or Mahto, TG to SLP or CL)
SSP will be #3 (only 1 section game left before seedings, against STA. A win only gives them a split, and STA's resume would be better)
4-7 are all nice teams, but I don't see any of them knocking off 1-3. Although a Mahtomedi vs. STA semifinal would be interesting givin recent history

What if St Thomas loses to Totino in OT, wins out and Totino loses to Chisago? Highly unlikely, but also possible and I doubt that would give Totino #1.

SSP's last game of the season is @ Maht. Pretty dumb if you ask me (no one has yet) that game won't count.

Will a one goal loss be enough to make Chisago #2?

Yes, I'm glad hockey played in neutral locations just means the away teams gets to wear the cooler looking jerseys. Hopefully St Thomas gets the #8 seed :-$

In that scenario I would still think we would see Totino-1 STA-2 SSP-3. Chisago would probably move up to 4th. My understanding is it is really all about the head-to-head games (unless it is a huge upset, obviously Simley beating STA would not put Simley ahead in the seedings) then the overall resume. Coaches don't really play the "this team beat this team, etc" game. But who knows, it has been a crazy year and there is a lot of hockey to be played.
