I'm fairly certain she had 3 penalties for 6 minutes. This makes a total of 4 penalties in 6 games. She is averaging a point and a half per game and is a plus 7. She and #16 HH have been very good together. This is a new year for WBL, with many new faces on varsity. Let's try to remember these are high school girls and they can make positive changes easier and better than many of us.
The stat sheet I saw had 4 for 8 min. all in the 3rd.
My boy played against her in peewees, and my girl skated with her this summer. My daughter got along with her real well. (I had to ask) She is too talented to be taking so many penalties. She may not have deserved that 5 min. penalty, but she earned it over the course of her career. I'm sure all refs have her number.
WBl's schedule has been fairly soft, let's see what happens when they play Stillwater,Roseville and anyone else with a winning record.

Alright…I think we can all agree that the forum is a good place to exchange information…to enlighten the unaware and uninformed masses. It truly is a great vehicle to express ones views and submit the highlights and low lights all in the sprit of the game…I truly do get that and appreciate the efforts of all those who contribute. I most especially like… is when “nuts” or those who are full of "Bull" take unacquainted shots at minors under the justification of their past discretions…good job…no bravo... for keeping us all updated with your ignorant views. No one can dispute the fact that past transgressions play a big part in how we are viewed. However, let’s also try not to ignore the fact that she’s still a kid…still maturing…still growing as an individual. What ever happen to a new year… new slate? You read a box score and think you got it all figured out? Oh…good for you! Well, the fact is…this is a new year and this is a new player (at least to this point). So cut her some slack. Her conduct on the ice has been more than appropriate…and has demonstrated that she is making a sincere effort to be a good team player. All of the penalties she has taken have been the result of assertive hard nose play and poor officiating. I know…I was present for every game so far. But you know different cause you read a box score…all I can say is keep up the good work. I know were all soooo much more informed because of it.hckynut12 wrote:According to the score sheet from the WBL/MV game, the afore mentioned WBL player had 8 penalty min. Amen....Yes she is making a HUGE effort. And it is working out well aside for the balony borderline calls against MV. First penalty was offsetting with the MV girl when they were just battling for the puck in the corner. One holding call both hands were on here stick. How does that work? Bottom line she is a very talented player, a great kid and gives 200% every game.hockeyheaven wrote:Alright…I think we can all agree that the forum is a good place to exchange information…to enlighten the unaware and uninformed masses. For the record. The same Penalty at 7:53 was entered twice by whoever did the MV sheet on the hockey hub. They entered it once for holding, which was incorrect. Then for hooking which was the correct call. but did not delete the incorrect entry.hckynut12 wrote:According to the score sheet from the WBL/MV game, the afore mentioned WBL player had 8 penalty min. 3 calls 6 minutes, one offsetting. There are alot of players that get 6 minutes in at least every other game. Not a big deal.
4AA Section Seeds
Anyone have thoughts on how they would seed this section per results to date? Or maybe predictions on what seedings might look like at section playoff time? I know it's early and there's obviously opportunities for shuffling of those seedings before the seasons end. WBL making a fairly strong case for #1 seed at present.

The only thing that can be concluded to this point is that this Section is still strong…but for the first time in quite a few years any of the top 4 teams have a reasonable chance of winning.
Seeding order if the season ended today…
1. WBL
2. Roseville
3. Hill
4. Stillwater
Lot of hockey to be played so we won’t know how legitimate the Bears are until they swing through the SEC again…but their strong performance over the Ponies and Raiders is encouraging.

Sad but true, WBL last two games are against Stillwater and Roseville and niether game will have an affect on section seedings as they are usually done by that time. At least that's how it has always been. I will never understand why they do this but it is the current procedure. What the SEC should really do is schedule those perennial top teams the last week of january against the perennial weaker opponents. I think HH is right on though. Hill will be glad to get Brandt back none too soon. She's having a great tournament over in Sweden
I've seen all the top teams and in my opinion yes I might be a little bit of a homer but WBL is the deepest team and are getting all the bounces for a change this year.
Roseville and Stillwater's strongest player is at defense and it's hard to skate end to end against a team that is deeper.
Hill might have more skill up front and in goal but do they have the defense. Miss Brandt can snipe though and that will be what it will take. (WBL will have to shadow her) Teams don't seem to be able to go up top like years past. And of course the fact that HM's coach still thinks he needs to play 3+ lines will hurt them.
It will be a great play down!

Should come out in the next couple days. Here are my predictions and records through last week. Stillwater and Hill could really be a toss up but, Hill beat them 3-2 and when you look at the strength of the teams Hill lost to and just the fact that they have Brandt, you gotta give them the 3 seed in my opinion. Might be some that think maybe even #2.capitalist wrote:Anybody hear anything about seedings or rumors of seedings?
The last two conference games have no bearing on the section seed as everything had to be turned in by 1/31/11.
1. White Bear Lake 20-2-1
2. Roseville 18-5
3. Hill Murray 16-7
4. Stillwater 16-6-1
5.Cretin DH 10-12-1
6. Tartan 8-15-1
7. North St Paul 6-16-1
8. SP Blades 5-14-2
9. Mpls. Novas 6-16
The bracket would then be:
Top
WBL vs pigtail game (SP and Mpls.)
Stillwater vs Cretin
Bottom
Hill vs Tartan
Roseville vs NSP

Personally I'd make HM #4. Playing an SEC schedule was brutal--there literally wasn't a night off in that conference. HM would have been lucky to finish 4th.
Melvin--I agree, you're a homer. Weird thing is that IMO depth is WBL's weakness--if Hill, Lowell and Hanson aren't scoring they're in trouble, which hasn't been the case too often lately. Depth is where Roseville and SW have the advantage. I'd still say the Bears are favorites though.
HM fans have finally flipped overboard about HB. You want special dispensation in the seeding because you have a certain player on your team? Seriously?

Tonights games can have an effect on the seeding. I think any of those top 4 could win the section and can't really see a favorite. I would usually look at who is playing the best right now but it looks like they are all playing well at this point in the season. I think it will come down to goaltending and which goalie has the big game when needed.

Seriously? I can't stomach the words Hill Murray. Sorry don't like anything green at all. I'm a bigger homer than Melvin. hah! However there could be chosen few coaches in that section selection that might feel that way is what I was getting at. In the past I have seen Hill get the higher seed with a WAY weaker schedule. They did beef it up a bit this year though. And they did beat Stillwater. That's the real factor there.
No Depth for da Bears though? If it wasn't for our second & third lines we would not have beat Park the other night. TT our center got two BIG goals and our 3rd line got 2. Against Mounds View 5 of the 9 goals were scored by players other than the top few you mentioned. 4 by our 2nd line. Longendyke has 30 points on the year Not too shabby. Not to mention Schaub is right in the mix.
It's gonna be a great game tonight, can't wait!!

Last year and this is fact, the seedings were out before the last game was played, which hurt WBL last year.hockeywild7 wrote:Tonights games can have an effect on the seeding. Totally agree though, get past the first round and flip a coin, it's anybody's game. Goaltending is always huge now. Also Cretin is playing much better. Don't take them lightly.hockeywild7 wrote:Tonights games can have an effect on the seeding. I think any of those top 4 could win the section and can't really see a favorite. Couldn't agree more. In the past three years, Cretin has been the team in the SEC/Section 4AA that has improved the most from the start of the season to the end. I'm not sure whether that is due to skilled players, great coaching, or a combination of things; but whatever it is, it always seems to work.
Whatever the seeding, it should be a great playoff. The winning team will need to get past some tough competition. Again, it's a shame only 1 team comes out of Section 4AA and goes to State.

Unfortunately Park and MV are not in the top 4 seeds in 4AA.hockey_rocker wrote:.............

Hey, like I said I think WBL is the favorite, even heavy favorite in the Section. It's just a little odd that at the last two Bears games I attended the fans were acting like they've already won something.

Cautiously enthusiastic is my take. Even though we beat MV & Park, they really weren't pretty wins. Last night Stillwater's forecheck was tenacious. The Ponies played a great game. If we would not have taken two back to back penalties, it would have been much different though. They have a nice power play and two of our strongest penalty killers were in the box and before we knew it it was 2-1.capitalist wrote:Unfortunately Park and MV are not in the top 4 seeds in 4AA.hockey_rocker wrote:.............

Two good, gritty games for the Ponies against quality opponents (Roseville and WBL). Both games could have gone either way, and might again depending on how things shake out in Sectionals.
I don't usually complain about ref'ing, but last night they contributed to goals on both sides. They swallowed the whistle in the first two periods, and WBL took advantage. They are a rough team - which I don't mind in general, but when kids stand a chance of getting hurt, that's not good.
Then they started calling stuff that they had let slide previously, and more. One of WBL's goals and two of Stillwater's came on power plays.
Still, an excellent, exciting game by two very good teams.

Woah, before people get carried away on a wave of histrionics and we need to get out the smelling salts...a couple of observations.
It was a tough, physical game...and WBL was certainly not a bunch of timid little kids skating around out there - if anything, they were the more aggressive team (in my opinion, of course).
The player who was injured had been quite an aggressive player herself during the whole game. As I noted previously, the refs did no favors by swallowing the whistle early in the game, and both sides have skilled, physical players who looked to make the most of every opportunity. That doesn't automatically mean that any particular players wanted to deliberately hurt another. Most of the skilled players know each other from the off-season, and who wants to hurt someone you know and like? Tempers can flare, of course. These are intense athletes.
If you could look at the game tape (some tv outlet was there taping; most of them sell game tapes, or DVDs), I believe you'll see the injury occurred without the intervention of any of the Stillwater players. In other words, she appeared to injure herself. She was checked during the game (not from behind, not with a shoulder, but from the side), but didn't appear to be injured from it. She played several lines after the check occurred, and before the injury. I think everyone would wish her a speedy recovery from whatever happened.
And - let's not confuse stupid teen age behavior (bear in the locker room, apparently) with evil intent. It think it's easy for all of us to sometimes forget that these are still kids barely beyond pigtails and coloring books. No one has ever mistaken a teenager for a thoughtful, mature adult. Add in Facebook and "idiotic" takes on a whole new meaning. Doesn't make it right, but it also doesn't make it "targeting."
Anyone who knows the coaching staff at Stillwater would understand that they would never condone behavior that takes away from a clean win - in a game or off the ice. What good coach *would* take pride in a dirty win? Thankfully, I think that's true of the majority of the coaches out there.
