Best Program Over The Past Decade

Post by WHAFightingSaints »

What program was the most outstanding over the past decade?

With Class AA only producing one repeat Champion (Holy Angels) during the last decade I think we need to look at many things such as appearances in the State Tournament, overall records, players the program produced that went on to the next levels of hockey etc.

In Class A my vote would have to go Breck as they produced 4 State Titles and Blake Wheeler, Tyson Fulton and others.

My Class AA vote would have to go to Hill Murray with their 5 straight Tourney appearances and a host of players that moved on to the next level, Matt Koalska, Nick Larsen, Guentzel brothers, Mike Hoeffel, etc.

Could throw Edina in there; past few years they have been solid.

I was going to, but, I can't stand the Hornets. I didn't know whether to count their 2010 win as the "past decade." I suppose it would make sense to.

The only reason I didn't put Moorhead in is because they didn't win it.....

It should count for something... Wouldn't call them the best, but at least honorable mentioned.

Honorable mention. Perfect. And they will get a win soon enough. Maybe this year? We'll see, it is the year of surprises and upsets.

Breck & Holy Angels.

Moorhead with yet another runner-up. Typical.

If it's squirt through HS, I nominate Hill Murray and Breck/Saint Thomas

I went under the assumption of HS only (JV / V). There is a similar thread in the youth forums.

Kind of sucks, but any way you look at it you have to have all privates in both classes.

AA

Hill Murray and Holy Angels

A

Breck and STA

honorable mention - goes to PUBLIC SCHOOL -Warroad!

No wonder everyone hates these guys!

Holy Angels is the obvious choice in AA simply because they are the only repeat winners. While Moorhead hasn't won, they've gotten 2nd 4 times in the last 10 years.

In the last 11 years Warroad has missed state 3 times. Breck has 4 state titles in the last 11 years. Breck and Warroad are the two in Class A for sure. St Thomas has only it to state 4 times.

Greenway and Austin are the only current Class A teams to make the AA tourney in the last ten years. St Paul Johnson and Alexandria did it in the previous 10 years.

For AA, I think Holy Angels wins the distinction for the first part of the decade with two titles, a 3rd and a consolation title. The last part of the decade, I'd give a slight edge to Edina with 4 trips to state in a row out of tough sections, a title, and a winning pct. at state of .750 and at least 2 wins each trip. Overall Holy Angels would have the edge, but they haven't been as successful this last part of the decade.

Moorhead has had nice success, but a title is probably necessary to be considered the team of the decade.

Hill Murray has had some success as well, but not enough for me in the beginning & middle of the decade, minus the runner-up in 2002. I give Edina a slight edge over HM because HM lost 2 games at state in both '06, '07 & '09.

Class A: Breck, followed by Warroad.

Team of the decade

Post by stpaul »

You have to give HM the slight edge over Edina & AHA if the question is about the last decade.

HM - 6 state appearances with a 1st in 2008, a 2nd in 2002, a 3rd in 2010 and a 4th place finish in 2006.

Edina - 4 state appearances with a 1st in 2010, a 2nd in 2008 and two 5th place finishes in 2007 & 2009.

AHA - 4 state appearances and the 2 state titles in 2002 & 2005 but no appearances in the last 5 years.
