Sure it's the same building, but when it went from a true Catholic school to a non-denominational private, Duluth Cathedral ceased to exist.

Did those happen in the same year?

My Duluth private school history is a bit rusty. I only commented on this because I have been told in the past from people at the school that it used to be Cathedral and the name was changed. If it were not, I doubt they would hang banners of a different school in their arena.

Or maybe it's just semantics. :-k

I was just curious cause a few years back Lee had mentioned that some of the original posters come back every now and again but that they used new names. I believe he said he knew because the operator of the site is able to see the Ip address of registered users.
And...?

And...? I was just looking to get my question answered by someone who knows rather than someone who just posts on the message board and because they can't see who people really are assume that they aren't around.

From wikipedia:

History

Marshall School was founded in 1972 by a group of civic and religious leaders who believed that a high-quality, college-preparatory education was essential to the future of northern Minnesota. The first board assumed governance of Cathedral Senior High School (founded in 1904) under an agreement with the Catholic diocese of Duluth that could no longer afford to sustain the school. In 1987, the school’s name was changed to The Marshall School to highlight its independent status and to honor the Albert Morley Marshall family, whose vision and resources over three generations enhanced the quality of education and life in Duluth. Marshall is the only college preparatory school in Northern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. Students from 20 school districts and from a wide geographic area attend Marshall.

All this chatter about Duluth Cathedral got me to thinking of one of the best hockey fights I ever witnessed. It occurred in 1972, at Hodgins Berardo Arena (then called West Range Arena), in Coleraine. One of Greenway's legendary players, John Elioff, and a Cathedral player, had been issued coincidental minors for roughing. There was only one penalty box at that time, so both players sat a few feet from each other, separated only by Elioff's father, Jim, who was in charge of the box that night. A few seconds into the penalty, the Cathedral player started yapping, and Elioff, tired of the continuous abuse thrown at him whenever these teams played, threw himself at the Cathedral kid. A melee ensued, with Elioff hammering the Cathedral player - and his father - resulting in the old man getting his glasses smashed to bits by his son. Elioff was suspended for part of the season, which had Greenway fans fuming because they suspected this was Cathedral's intent all along.

I'd probably be just as surprised as to what you know as to what you don't know.

MrBoDangles- what is the "other" message board?
