mn girls hockey hub stats

Post by Cobber »

Have other people noticed unassisted goals during the game turn into assists when entered on the hub. Is this coaches or dads or both padding the points. To bad some people have to ruin a good thing. Coaches and scouts won't be able to use this because of a few bad apples.

Sometimes an assist is added later in a game without being anounced. Also the ref that signs the sheet at the end of game should look for errors. As for scouts using game stats I'm sure they are aware of padding of stats, also stats will not show many things a scout would look for. I agree padding does happen. I've seen assists credited to a player that was on the bench. I've seen shots on net greatly exagerated to make the stats look good for a high profile goallie.

Some teams are known for adding 1st and 2nd assists to goals every time they can. You can usually spot these teams by looking at how frequently they have 2 assists (if almost always, they either move the puck really well, or...).

I recall one team that picked up a loose puck off a turn-over and fired it into an empty net (obviously unassisted) and added two assists later I found. I just laughed. What a joke!

The players will sometimes do this too; mention their friend/teammate/linemate's # as an assist even when it didn't happen. Some coaches are also guilty. I suppose parents/stat keeper could be too. It happens I guess. Seems everyone thinks that college coaches can't figure this out... They're smarter than that, and they obviously don't look at stats alone - else they'd be out of a job in a hurry as someone mentioned above.

I always made sure my team's stats were accurate. Yes, when watching game film after I would check the scoring sequence and update as needed after the fact. I took away as many assists as I added, changed scoring, etc. if the game film was obviously different from what was recorded.

So, maybe I'm just as guilty as the rest for changing things after the fact, but at least it was accurate.

Stats AA Vs A

Post by elkpower »

The stats should be broken down into AA vs A with a strength of schedule value. I think Mr "ghshockeyfan" would be the perfect person for this task. He is good.

Speaking of stats, If a goalie makes a save and the puck is laying on the side of her pad and an opponent slaps at that, isn't that considered another shot?

I have seen this where it has been called a shot and where it hasn't.

If the ref has not blown the whistle so that play is still live and if the player contacts the puck so that it would have gone in the net and scored a goal had the goalie not stopped it with her/his pads, I would count that as a SOG.

I find this all interesting. What about taking assists AWAY! I have a defenseman that gets an assist or two in a game. It is announced as an assist. And by the time we drive home and look at hockey hub, it is not listed! Who enters the game stats? You know no one looked at game film in that short of time. Last year as a freshman i never thought about stats, but this year as she receives questionaires what do you write in...what is listed on hockey hub or actuals?

It can be a mystery. I can see the officials not seeing all of the assists. That goes without saying. But your right I've seen where the officials call it… the scorekeeper records it... the announcer announces it...the paper posts it…and the hub tallies it. Then two days later it gone….poof…never happened. Very perplexing I might add 8)
