6A Predictions?

We can all agree that Sartell, Little Falls, Fergus Falls, and Alexandria are the contenders. Now that they all have played eachother once, this is what I can come up with:
1-Little Falls 2-0-1 3-1 win over Sartell, 3-2 win over Alexandria, 4-4 tie with Fergus Falls. Also has nice wins over Hibbing, St. Cloud Tech, and Brainerd. And only one loss, to Virginia.
2- Sartell 3-2 overtime win over Fergus Falls, 1-3 loss to Little Falls, 6-3 win over Alexandria. Nice win over St. Cloud Cathedral high school. They do have some lopsided losses among the five they have on the season, but they have beaten two of the 3 other teams that I feel are seriouse contenders.
3-Fergus Falls 0-1-2 Tied Little Falls 4-4, Tied Alexandria 4-4, lost to Sartell 3-2 OT. Did not get a win in the first go round against these three, but you can't get much closer than two ties and an OT loss. Two losses on the year, one to Sartell other to Bemidji.
4-Alexandria 0-2-1 Tied Fergus Falls 4-4, lost to Sartell 6-3, lost to Little Falls 3-2..I think that one was in OT??? The Cardinals are having a tough year, but they are playing these teams pretty close. They had a decent holiday in Roseau, and are the defending champs.
Detroit Lakes is my top dark horse. They where smoked by Fergus Falls, and flat beaten by Willmar but the Lakers have a ton of teams on the schedule to "get better" against. St. Cloud Apollo has shown some signs that it may be worthy of an upset. Willmar has shown that there are three teams outside the top 4 that have to be watched. You never really know what to expect of the rest of the section as they are programs that are generally still "developing".

Willmar beat Fergus Falls 4-3 in OT. Great for Willmar, horrible for FF. Willmar tied the score with under 30 seconds left in the game and won it under a minute into OT. This is a theme on the Otters' season, they can't seem to put a team away. They overcame a 2-0 deficit against Sartell to lead 3-2, Sartell ties the score with 14 seconds left and wins in OT. They lost a late lead against Rocori and settled for a tie. Fergus Falls overcame a 3-1 deficit at Alex only to let the Cards score with under 30 seconds left, they settled for a tie. Seems this Fergus Falls team has a problem that has historically plagued Fergus Falls teams, they play to the level of their opponent. They had Sartell beat, Sartell was in the top 15 at the time, they tied Little Falls, they are now top ten or 15, then they go and tie Rocori and Willmar, squeak one out against Apollo High and lose to Willmar.
This team has a bright future, obviously they are playing with the top of the section, but they need to get that killer instinct that they are missing. I will predict that Fergus Falls will have a winning season, but likely will have 7 or 8 losses. They will take the 3 or 4 seed and likely be tested in the first round. Last year they seemed to be strong at the end, we'll see what happens this year.

1. Little Falls (Nice wins over Tech, Hibbing, Brainerd, and Cathedral)
2. Sartell (Beat LF but their other wins are not as impressive)
3. Willmar (On a heater since Christmas, 9-1-3)
4. Fergus Falls (Slow start but have comeback nicely)
5. Detroit Lakes (Have beat the teams they should have)
6. Northern Lakes (Have won some key section games)
7. Alexandria (Rough year after taking this section last year)
8. Morris Benson (12 wins so far against weak teams, beat Willmar)
9. Prairie Center ( Reason for the 9 seed and not 10 is they beat Apollo)
10. Apollo (Has upset potential, better than the 10 seed but have not won key section games)
11. Wadena (Rough year all around for Wadena, give em some credit for dealing with the loss of their rink)
This is just my prediction if the season ended today. Anyone can come out of this section. the 6-10 seeds I had trouble with. Those could go any way.

This section is going exactly how everyone saw it in the beginning: Closest and most wide open as it's ever been, and that definitely includes the old section 4a days.
The top 5 are so close it's hard to predict who will actually win the thing still, all top 5 teams are playing eachother dang close. We have found out some stuff, but there is a lot up in the air still, and will be untill one team loads the bus for St. Paul.
1-Little Falls Flyers have proven to be the team to beat. They have been slightly down latelely but looking at the entire season the Flyers deserve the #1 seed. Even with the loss to Willmar and Sartell.
2-Sartell Sartell came into the season as a favorite, won just enough in the beginning to stay serious, and are finishing nicely. They have only lost one section game (Little Falls) which puts them in the top two. Big losses to Tech High School, Brainerd, and Bemidji puts them below Little Falls.
3-Willmar If Willmar wouldn't have had such a slow start, it is possible that they could be #1, and definitely #2. The whole season has to be looked at and with some of their early losses they are lower than Sartell or Little Falls. They beat LF, FF, Alex, and tied Sartell proving on the ice that they can beat any of the top teams. This is something that no team lower than them can say.
4-Fergus Falls The Otters have played all teams ahead of them tough, but just like hitting the pipe, it doesn't count. They have won the games that they clearly should have won, problem is they haven't won any of the games that were either going to be close nor the ones they shouldn't have won. Like most years for this team, consistency is an issue.
5-Alexandria The Cardinals have had a tough go at it this year, but the wins they have and the teams that they have lost to put them in this spot.
6-Detroit Lakes With 8 losses on their schedule I cannot put them higher. One win that might have been remotely tough was against Fargo North.

It will be interesting to see how LF responds to the tragic death of the father of two of their players. It could put a damper on the season, or it could be used as inspiration to win. At this point it is a toss-up as to whether LF or Sartell deserves the # 1 seed. Sartell has a more veteran team and have been strong the second half, beating teams soundly. I tend to favor the Sabers to come out of the section unless LF can show some consistency down the stretch.

That is terrible news. Very sorry for the Anez family as I know they always seemed like great people.Mite-dad wrote:It will be interesting to see how LF responds to the tragic death of the father of two of their players. Who do you see getting the top seed?
Willmar has lost 2 straight but before that hadnt lost since before christmas
Sartell lost to Virginia 2-0 but before that won 4 straight
Little Falls hit a bump in the road losing to the two teams above but have rebounded with 3 wins even after going through a terrible situation and losing their second leading scorer to illness.
any thoughts?

This Sections has been real up and down all year and its been controlled by 4 teams for the most part all year too. Sartell, Little Falls, Wilmar and Fergus Falls all have the ability to win the section and be the #1 seed IMO. I do think 1-4 should be ranked how I said earlier but any of those teams could be upset cause none of them have shown to be truly consistent and unbeatable.

My standings as of today
1) Sartell- On a roll over their past 6 games only losing once to Virginia even though they outshot them.
2) Little Falls- Obviously a number one or two seed, but since Sartell whooped up on them during their last meeting and only beating Sauk Rapids in ot puts them behind Sartell. FOR NOW.
3) Willmar- I have them ranked above Fergus because of the roll they've been on since Christmas break. 9-2-3 I believe? Defeated Little Falls, Fergus Falls and Alex.
4) Fergus Falls- Not very many quality wins for the Otters so I have them below Willmar.
5) Alexandria
6) Detroit Lakes
7) Northern Lakes
8 ) Morris Benson- I have them at 8 instead of lower because they defeated Willmar.
9) St. Cloud Apollo
10) Prairie Center
11) Wadena-DC- Tough season for those boys.

What does Sauk Rapids have to do with 6A?

fivehole said one of his reasons for lf being behind sartell is the close win over sauk. i was just stating that maybe sauk is starting to pick up their game if they took the #5 team in the state to ot as well.
[/quote]
Ahhh good catch I missed that, Sauk does seem to be picking up its game and they played a close game with Little Falls last week also.

Goaltending, goaltending, goaltending.....Top 4 teams ( IMO) are Sartell, Willmar, L Falls and Fergus falls. All have good first lines with Sartell and Little falls having good second lines. Defense strength favors Sartell and Willmar and the strongest goaltending nod goes to L falls and Willmar followed closely by Sartell and Fergus falls. Any one of these tenders has the potential to shut down opponents and take over a game as has happened recently for Willmar ( Brainerd game), Sartell ( Tech, Alex game) and L falls' Stumpf game in and game out playing consistently well. Should be a wild ride during secitons with perhaps an upset or two mixing it all up.

After Tuesday games, the 1-5 seeds are starting to look a lot more clear now.
Sartell seems to have all but locked up the 1 seed baring a loss to a Apollo and Little Falls winning out. Sartell will go about as far as Deters and Halupczok will take them and Halupczok has been on his game the last few weeks so many hes streaking when it matters most.
Little Falls IMO is the 2 seed but could also be the 3 seed depending on how the section seeders feel about LF's play over the past few weeks and Willmars play since Christmas, either way, LF is IMO the most skilled team in the section and my pick to come out of 6A because of how well they can play and Stumpf's ability to steal a game.
Willmar should be the 3 seed in 6A after beating Fergus Falls last night. Willmar has been one of the hottest teams in this section along with Sartell since the Christmas break and they are gonna be a team you don't wanna play in the playoffs. Willmar is a team thats sneaky good and plays a very complete game.
Fergus should be the 4 seed. A very hard playing and quick team who likes to move the puck. Have had a rather good season and have been a tough team to play all year. A deep team who has pulled off some good wins and played alot of games very close.
Detroit Lakes for the 5 seed. They just dont play the top teams needed to get up and compete for a higher seeding in the section but is still a very skilled team with a great scoring threat in Nate Baker, on of the states top scorers.
6-11 can be basically anyone but its all about who wins the play in games between those 6 teams.
My 1-11 if the Section Seeding Meeting were today...
1- Sartell
2- Little Falls
3- Willmar
4- Fergus Falls
5- Detroit Lakes
6- Alexandria
7- Northern Lakes
8- Morris/Benson
9- St Cloud Apollo
10- Praire Center
11- Wadena/Deer-Creek

I think the seeding is on sunday, before the end of the season. so what happens this week is all that counts.GordonBombay99 wrote:After Tuesday games, the 1-5 seeds are starting to look a lot more clear now.

That's cool.... I was responding to the notion that if Little Falls wins out they could get #1( I think LF get's #1 anyway...) the point was, what's done is done regardless if LF wins out.
I don't really think #1 and #2 matters much. I think what matters is the lower seeds and how they end up bracketed. For instance does anyone really want to play Apollo??? A team that has played some tough games. How about Alexandria, the Cards may get a 4 seed, but they may go as low as 6, Detroit Lakes is not a great team, but I won't be surprised if they get an upset. Fergus Falls even could go lower than 4.
After Sunday we can really start debating...

If you want to be the best you have to play the best and beat the best. That's logistics. Players have to step-up and do what they do. And when it comes down to it, we then will see who comes out at the end.defense wrote:GordonBombay99 wrote:Yep they are Sunday, I was just saying if they were on that day, that's where I would have ranked them.

Since I don't really know how to get the quote thing right, ill respond this way.
Defense- I agree Defense, Apollo is not a team that you want to play right now. They have put together a decent run lately even though they don't have many wins to show for it, they played Little Falls and Willmar tough this week. IMO if they show up they could be as tough as any to beat come playoffs. I still think Sartell has the 1 locked up just because they seem to be playing the best hockey right now compared to Little Falls but you are right, it doesn't matter who is 1 or 2 because they are so close in skill and talent.
