It took a North Dakotan (Grant P) and a European (Thomas V) to put MN Gophers on their two most recent National Championship podiums.

It used to be that all the best players in MN went to the Gophers. Now the best players split between all the MN schools. If the Gophs got the 5 best from each class each year, and none of them went pro before they graduated, then you'd have a Nat Champ in 4 years... and every year there after.

Interesting article. Not the content, but the way it was written. He asks the question, but doesn't begin to answer it. The article says that good players come from other places. Nothing new for anyone on this forum.

I'm sure some locals read it and said, "wow! We have a kid coming from California?"

Grimaldi being a Californian that left for Michigan Bantams and then the NTDP before going to North Dakota...if he wins a national title that will only be, well, 25 years or so after another Californian left Los Angeles for Minnesota before ultimately winning a national championship with the Badgers.
Be kind. Rewind.

Best state, yes. If you go outside the US, different story.

Another way to view these numbers:

Just out of curiosity, and because another poster made a big deal about it a few years ago, I did a little running of these numbers compared to State populations. Here are some of the notable States with players produced per 100,000 population:

Minnesota 3.37
Michigan 1.29
Massachusetts 1.72
Alaska 2.39
North Dakota 1.34
Vermont 1.45
Wisconsin 0.57

Full disclosure - I was the one who related the raw numbers to population.

Good to hear it was a sarcastic comment.

However, sarcasm is hard to recognize when reading sometimes (posts, texts, etc.)

And MN is still rich in talent compared to the rest of the nation. IMO
