Forgaard coming back means a lot to Faribault. They'll have to go on the road and win a game but they're certainly not to be overlooked.

West 8
Austin 0
Hat tricks by MW's Rantanen and Frentz

As for the section scores tonight, I'd say the Faribault game result is news, because for the third straight game Falcons G Aaron Forgaard was outstanding, stopping 40 of 41 shots and beating Century. Faribault looks much tougher than a month or so ago.

I predict that Mankato West or Albert Lea represents 1A at the X in March. Lourdes stays home this year.

ok Dog....let's see. Since we can't put money on it I will let you have both those teams and I will take Lourdes. You lose and you don't post on this site until next hockey season, I lose same for me. You in? Only risk I have is AL, no way West beats Lourdes.

Looking like very shrewed planning by Faribault coaches, bring Forgaard back so slowly. Make him earn it back, but have him the unquestioned #1 goalie by Sections.

Faribault is the section sleeper, and probably love it that way.

It's the 2010-2011 season not 2009-2010. Fulton, Russell, the Borers and Morin are all graduated. Breck is a quality team yes and maybe the most impressive of Lourdes' wins this season but honestly Breck hasn't beaten anyone impressive. Oh sorry they did beat SCC 6-4, but otherwise Breck doesn't have much on the resume for being a highly touted Class A team. Breck's highlights of the season are mostly close losses like the lost to STA (5-4) or lost to Delbarton Academy, NJ (3-2), but all nonetheless are losses.
Scarlet.....I know it's hard not to be biased and overall you do a nice job. The real reality check is if everyone is "close" to Lourdes does that mean your beloved Scarlets would fall in OT to St. Thomas as well. I think a blowout would be more the case. Your squad has been a tad overrated all year....and ending up with a #4 seed would be about right. If not for Ville, they might have been a true middle of the pack team....good recruiting away from East. Putting it out there....I will say next year they will be bottom 5 of 1A.
First of all please do notice that, I posted that after the game vs. Breck, who I think should be close to not a top 10 team, not the game vs. STA. I do give some praise for the Eagles and their OT loss over STA, who I think is the best Class A team in the state and would do quite well in AA as well. It's nice seeing a southern team compete with a very good metro team for a change.

Did Lourdes play enigma hockey in the beginning of the season? I think if you said no you'd be joking yourself, they played far too many teams too close, where the games should've been won by comfortable leads. They are definitely revving it up for sections are they are looking a lot like the team that many people expected in the beginning of the season.

Do I personally think the Scarlets are overrated? No, in what way are they? Barring a 1st period disaster, the Scarlets could easily be seeing #2 over #3 or #4 and looking at a possible Big 9 Championship. The Scarlets are playing inconsistent hockey right now. I don't believe you've seen the best game out of the Scarlets yet this season. Do they deserve the #4 seed as of right now? I think it's possible to make a small case for #3 seed, but the OT loss to NP sets them almost at #4.

As for Rantanen, what recruiting are you talking about? Mankato West is not Rochester Lourdes . If you don't know the situation, Rantanen was supposed to be an East exchange student, but was unable to find housing on the East side of town. West being the next nearest school in the area was the next possible school to possibly house him. We didn't recruit him away from East, East simply could not house him. Mankato West hardly does any "recruiting" whatsoever.

Don't disregard Mankato West's future either, they return their whole defense core and a very capable goalie in Zach Fox. Not to mention Mankato's youth programs have been slowly improving every year.

The best team I have seen out of section 1A to make it to state was Mankato west a few years ago. That team could really skate and was the most competitive team at a state tourney out of that section. Would not surprise me if they return to state in near future.

Northfield 4
Mankato West 3 FINAL

Northfield scored 3 unanswered after being down 3-1 to win. West goalie Kaufman was pulled after the 2nd period.

what a momentum shift from the last second goal in the 1st period. Mankato West dominates a majority of the 1st where shots were somewhere in the range of 10-2 in favor of West, but the first goal for Northfield was pivotal for the Raiders in the entire game. West doesn't look the same after that 1st period. Mankato West is not playing as well as they have all season since their tie with Mayo. Definitely makes the seeding not as straightforward, will be interesting how it all turns out.

Why would you flip those two? High School Hockey Watcher still has Red Wing as the #4 seed in that section, has had them in that spot for about 7 weeks.

HSHW is not the only guy who watches hockey in this state.

#1) HSHW doesn't even have New Prague in his top 4 for 1A
#2) New Prague will finish 2nd in the Missota
#3) Red Wing will finish no worse than 3rd in Missota
#4) Red Wing will finish higher than Northfield in the Missota

Have you seen those rankings? The guy obviously must be clueless to New Prague sweeping Red Wing this year.

All 4 of those items you listed are correct Blue. I was pointing out the fact that somehow Red Wing remains one of the top 4 seeds in 1A. The facts do not add up to that conclusion.

I beg to differ, there were several families that would have housed him, but they were never considered as he wanted to go west, I know, as i have spoken with several folks who made calls and were shut out of the process. If you would take off the red colored glasses and do your homework, you would know.

I forgot the Foreign Exchange Student program is biased based on Minnesota High School Hockey teams  . Rantanen didn't have a choice, he said it himself on the HockeyHub video when West played Prior Lake. He was able to pick where to go, and he picked Minnesota anything else was not in any of his control.

Perhaps they were shut down from the process because two days before Rantanen came to Minnesota he was changed to the West side. He lost his primary host which was an East host. The Foreign Exchange Student Program probably found him a host as quickly as possible because it was only two days before his arrival. Other East hosts probably called to say they would host him but they had already taken extreme measures to find him a host because of the short two day notice. This is just all speculation on why they might've been shut down, nothing out of fact.

But I do know for a fact that Rantanen had no choice in choosing Mankato West over Mankato East. I'm sorry I bleed Scarlet, but in all honesty I try not to be overly biased towards West. Also I've done my homework, and I've also done the research to make sure I've gotten all the answers right

has anyone else noticed that on the MN Hockey Hub Website that when looking at player or team or game stats that the goalie stats cannot be accurrate, lets just say for example that when the goalie gets pulled in the 1rst or 2nd period they never switch the shots on goal or saves or goals given up, or for that matter switch over any of the goalie stats to the new goalie coming in for the starting goalie, for example Mankato Wests goalie Kaufman gets pulled from 2 games last week vs Albert Lea and Northfield, in comes his replacement Zach Fox, on the Hockey Hub website no stats for Fox, these are only two examples it has been going on all season long for other teams goalies as well, it would be nice if Hockey Hub had accurrate goalie stats, MN Hockey Hub is a joke, if they take pride in being Minnesota Hockeys official website they are failing, it would be nice to know how all the goalies in each conference or section stack up against each other, no different than the scoring stats for the skaters, IMO we dont know now how any of these goalies stack up against each other now, we need that guy Nadeau from Winona to take over the MN Hockey Hub Website, he did a great job when he ran that Big Nine Hockey Website, he may not have been perfect but he did alot better than the Hockey Hub does now, JUST MY 2 CENTS

Don't blame hockeyhub.... The stats are only as accurate as the person entering them. Hockeyhub relies on coaches and statisticians to know what they're doing. And of course, sometimes the guys in the scorers box forget to note when the goalie changed or don't remember to keep separate shots on goal for the two goalies.

for another example...according to Hockey Hub, no West players had any goals, saves, or assists in the 8-0 win over Austin last Thursday.

Still, you have to admit that overall Hockey Hub is a great website for fans of MN HS hockey. The highlighting in advance of certain games each week is a big plus and most of the coverage is excellent, I think.

Hugee section 1A game tonight in Northfield, as a New Prague team that has struggled as of late can regain composure and almost guarentee themselves a 3 seed with a win tonight. If Northfield wins, it would make an interesting case for them to try and be 5, although it won't happen. In addition, west would have a shot at the 3 seed again with NP not being able to finish better than .500.

Note that the New Prague-Northfield game was moved to 5:45 p.m. because Northfield is hosting a girls hockey playoff game later in the evening.

And New Prague will likely be the #3 seed with a .500 record.

My seeds:
1.Lourdes
2.Albert Lea
3.New Prague
4.Mankato West
5.Red Wing
6. and 7. Faribault and Northfield...I'm thinking that Fairbo will get the 6.

The rest doesn't matter.
