Stats Prove SEC superior to CSC

Post by WHAFightingSaints »

I took three sites that rank both Class A and AA together to find the average rank for each team and conference. The SEC ranks a whopping 22 spots higher than the CSC \:D/

CSC
Hill Murray Average rank = 2.0
STA = 9.67
South St. Paul = 33.34
North St. Paul = 48.67
Mahtomedi = 50.34
Tartan = 60.34
Henry Sibley = 113.34
Richfield = 116.34
Simley = 118.67

Average Rank = 61.42

SEC
White Bear Lake = 16.0
Stillwater = 20.67
Roseville = 25.34
Cretin-Derham Hall = 29.67
Hastings = 35.67
Woodbury = 43.0
Forest Lake = 44.34
East Ridge = 54.0
Mounds View = 60.0
Park-Cottage Grove = 65.34

Average Rank = 39.41

I believe they would probably finish 1 & 2; maybe, having to play the teams ranked higher in the SEC would certainly give them better tests than they get now!
Below is a combined SEC/CSC conference standings based on the average ranking stats. (very bottom heavy with CSC teams)

1 Hill Murray CSC
2 STA CSC
3 White Bear Lake SEC
4 Stillwater SEC
5 Roseville SEC
6 Cretin-Derham Hall SEC
7 South St. Paul CSC
8 Hastings SEC
9 Woodbury SEC
10 Forest Lake SEC
11 North St. Paul CSC
12 Mahtomedi CSC
13 East Ridge SEC
14 Mounds View SEC
15 Tartan CSC
16 Park-Cottage Grove SEC
17 Henry Sibley CSC
18 Richfield CSC
19 Simley CSC

You have to keep in mind that every other game is a joke for Hill and STA. If they played in the SEC they would not have a night off. They would be much more fatigued and injured. The SEC is a very physical conference. I do not disagree with you that they would finish 1 and 2 but I have a feeling they would lose a game or two to Stillwater and White Bear.

Being that St Thomas has beaten their SEC opponents this year each by 1 goal, I would have to agree with the beating up. Hill would run the table, St Thomas would end up with 1-3 losses.

That being said, while their other games aren't difficult, they play their back ups, rotate their lines and still dominate. Their lower lines would get less experience. While they do walk through, development is something that probably helps them both out quite a bit, just my two cents.

A 19 team conference. Play every team once. Go to your tourny. Pick up one or two more games.[section opp]

There are lies, damn lies and then statistics. The game is played on the ice. The #4 CSC team North St. Paul smacking #2 SEC Stillwater last night disproves your stats. The CSC going 7-1 against the SEC so far this year disproves your stats. The average rank for the CSC is clearly dragged way down by Sibley, Simley and Richfield. The other 6 teams are better at the top and better in the middle than the SEC. North proved that last night.

Sorry buddy but I don't buy these stats one bit. Hastings at the 30 spot and lost 12 to 2 vs. duluth east??!!! NSP (at the bottom of the CSC) just beat one of the top SEC teams 4-0! I really don't understand you SEC people how you keep trying to show your dominance over the CSC. Just because your regular season is good competition doesn't seem to amount to much in march....

I'm an SEC backer all the way. I'm also very happy I didn't say anything on this thread or the SEC vs. CSC thread until finding out that NSP handled Stillwater last night. I really don't like the taste of humble pie.

You CSC people still have to claim your bottom feeders, they are part of your conference and they do bring the CSC down drastically, can't just throw them out stat wise.

The 7-1 record is good, however the SEC didn't schedule any of the bottom feeders to boost their records.

Have to give credit to the Polars for beating a struggling Stillwater team.

I'm not sure which conference is better overall, I do know that the SEC has many more competetive games than does the CSC, doesn't make it better though, just more exciting.

I do like the posts that have been coming in though stirring things up!

Let's see how the section's turn out and then we can have some more fun :wink:

Stillwater and WBL are two of the largest high schools in the state with two of the largest hockey programs in the state.

Why can't they get by Hill

Unable to keep their more talented players in their home town ?

or fail to develop enough high caliber players to make the loss of a few high end players insignificant ?

First, there are some coaching issues with both W.B.L and Stillwater.

Second, there are more than a few kids lost in Stillwater’s case and that will never change until certain coaches at the high school level are removed, quit, resign, or get fired. The Athletic Director has to address the issue or it will never change. I believe in 2008 seven or 8 of the Hill kids were from the Stillwater area. This year there are less Stillwater area kids on the Hill team but some others went to play at STA and a few at other schools. Why would a kid not want to play for a team that sets out every year,,,,,,,,, and actually has a chance to get the state tournament. ………………..every single year?

Stillwater has the numbers coming up to make a difference at the high school level. If you look at the youth programs in District 2 Stillwater finished as follows in the regular season:
Bantam A – 1st
Bantam B1 – 1st
Bantam B1 – 7st
Bantam B2 – 2nd
Bantam B2 – 7th
Peewee A – 2nd
Peewee B1 – 1st
Peewee B1 – 2nd
Peewee B2 – 1st
Peewee B2 – 1st
With these numbers I see Hill, STA, SPA and Shattuck being good for many years!

Nobody has a larger hockey association than the privates. I think HM's runs from Edina to Hudson WI.

When you strip the top A Bantam players from WBL and Stillwater it has a huge effect........no matter how big the association is. Look at Woodbury ER now think that split doesn't hurt? Hill and STA get the top players and that wont change, the only bright spot is that a few kids get to experience playing high school hockey that wouldn't get that chance if players didn't leave.

Well stated, Youngy... But the shame is, just think of all those kids that leave associations with the visions of playing for H-M or STA, etc, that get cut, and quit playing hockey, although they would still be good enough to play at their hometown team... HS hockey as a whole would be even better.

I would assume that the pull to private schools in the West Metro is equally strong. Yet EP and Minnetonka have denied BSM and Edina had dominated 2AA as of late.

Some players go to school for education too. :wink:
