What does a 5-5 tie against Holy Angels do to the seedings? I don't feel like reading all of this to see if Albert Lea and NP played this year..GopherPuck15 wrote:And New Prague will likely be the #3 seed with a .500 record.
My seeds:
1.Lourdes
2.Albert Lea
3.New Prague
4.Mankato West
5.Red Wing
6. and 7. Faribault and Northfield...I'm thinking that Fairbo will get the 6.
The rest doesn't matter.

NP has a chance at 2nd seed, but I'd guess third.

Personal Thoughts
If the seedings are set up like this there are some very interesting match ups for sections because some of the early match ups are teams that haven't played eachother at all this regular season. Barring upsets, second round match ups that include teams they haven't met each other this regular season include:
Scarlets (#4) vs. Wingers (#5)
Mankato West vs. Red Wing is extremely interesting to me. Red Wing maybe one of the scariest teams in the section with the though schedule they've been playing, but they've played some really good teams close and have also been blown out a couple times this season. In my recent memory the Scarlets have never played Red Wing during the regular season, I can't remember if they have ever matched up in sections like this one.
Falcons (#7) vs. Tigers (#2)
Also the 7,2 match up is interesting if I am correct Faribault vs. Albert will be interesting because despite being in the same Big 9 conference they did not play this season. Faribault is an interesting team with Forgaard in net and Helegson with Lipinski scoring points, definitely not a team too look over. Albert Lea might be bringing more firepower with Carlson and Hacker, but I think this match up will come down to the goalies. Wangen has been playing well of late, but I definitely think Forgaard despite missing a significant amount of time this season is the better goalie.
Ending Remarks
I'm obviously excited to see how the real seedings come out, there could be a jumble at 3-5. Northfield has been playing pretty well as of late, Mankato West has been stumbling to the finish line until their 5-1 win over Owatonna. Albert Lea might be able to claim sole champions of the Big 9 with a win tonight vs. Owatonna and that should get them going into sections with some fire. Faribault has Forgaard playing really well right now. Lourdes will be tested tonight vs. TG and likely won't be tested until the semi-finals in sections. New Prague is hot coming off a tie with AHA and a win over Northfield.

YEs 3-3 final. Regardless, Lourdes finishes Feb going 4-1-1
1 win vs #3 in A
1 win vs #11 in A
1 OT loss to #1 in A
1 tie with #4 in A
We will see what happens in sections, but I have to think the level of competition LHS has faced is way better than any other 2-6 in 1A--that only will help them in sections...

1. Lourdes (21-3-1) this one is easy, they are the outright #1 seed. 7-0 in section games. Beat New Prague twice, Red Wing in OT, West by a goal, and handled Albert Lea, Faribault and Northfield.
Most Impressive Game: a OT loss to STA
Worst Game: Losing to Duluth Marshal 5-1
2. Albert Lea (18-6-1) They are the Big 9 champs. They have been pretty consistent all year, well coached and disciplined. The Tigers hold a section record of 8-2. Their losses are a 4-0 loss to New Prague and they lost to Mankato West who they split the two games with them this year. They beat New Prague early on which i think is what is giving them the #2 seed. because New Prague could try and argue for a 2 seed, but i think AL will get it.
Most Impressive Game: Hard to decide, not many outstanding wins but definatley a lot of good quality wins. I'll go with the 2-1 win over New Prague because that gives them the 2 seed.
Worst Game: Losing 6-5 to Richfield
3. New Prague (12-11-2) They are playing really good hockey right now. They could try and argue for a two seed, with some quality games and the tie to AHA. their section record is 6-3. They lost twice to Lourdes and once to Albert Lea. They swept Northfield and Red Wing. And beat West in OT in the first game of the season and beat Faribault shortly there after. I think this team could do some damage.
Most Impressive Game: a 5-5 tie to Holy Angels on the last day of the season.
Worst Game: 5-1 loss to Farmington
4. Mankato West (15-7-3) They have been struggling lately but this team has some definite fire power and they could cause some serious trouble if they get good goaltending. Their section record is 8-4, their losses are one to AL who they split with, New Prague in the first game in OT, a one goal loss to Lourdes, and they just lost to Northfield. They are right there. Their only other quality section win besides Albert Lea is Faribault. They beat up on the bottom of the section.
Most Impressive Game: Either beating Albert Lea by one or losing to Lourdes by a goal.
5. Red Wing (8-17) This team got off to a horrible start, losing their first 9 games of the season. But since than they are 8-9. Their section record is 1-5. They split with Northfield this season and got swept by New Prague. And lost to both Albert Lea and Lourdes by one goal. This team could pull off an upset or two, they have been in the section final each of the last two seasons.
Most Impressive Game: Losing to Rochestor Lourdes the 1 seed in Overtime, they blew a 2 goal lead in the last minute of that game.
Worst Game: Losing to Orono 6-2 early in the year.
6. Faribault (10-14-1) Since the Falcons got Foorgard back they are a different team from the beginning of the year. They had a lot of expectations for the season but they do not have as many wins as they would of hoped. But they are capable of upsetting a few teams in playoffs. Their section record is 4-4. All their wins are of teams below them, the best one being Northfield. They lost to the top 4 seeds.
Most Impressive Game: 4-0 win over Chanhassen
Worst Game: barely beating Le- Seuer Henderson/ St. Peter tonight 3-2
7. Northfield (9-15) This team has had some good and bad games. They can be inconsistent. But they have been playing better hockey lately. Their section record is 2-6. They earned a split with Red Wing and also beat Mankato West. They got swept by the top 3 teams. and lost to Faribault. Their 4-3 loss to Albert Leas was on the first game of the year. They could sneak one by in sections if they show up.
Most Impressive Game: 4-3 win over Mankato West or 4-1 win over Red Wing
Worst Game: losing to Farmington 7-2, who they already had beaten.
Don't know much about the rest.

It's unfortunately probably the most nuetral site there can be..playing in Mankato would be the only other option really..Owatonna would be a possible site they could look into as Owatonna isn't even in the section and they have seating that could fit people..ultimately the Rec Center houses the most fans, besides the Civic Center in Mankato, which gives off the best hockey atmosphere.scarlethockey33 wrote:assuming it's the same as last year, semi finals and finals will be played in Rochester does anyone see that as somewhat odd because those games are supposed to be played at neutral sites but clearly Lourdes has a "home" advantage... thoughts?
The only way to remedy this problem is to rotate the sectional site each year. Each section has 3 locations that would work. In addition, it would bring revenue to different areas where sectional is held that year. This of course would require the powers that be to do something. Not likely to happen.scarlethockey33 wrote:assuming it's the same as last year, semi finals and finals will be played in Rochester does anyone see that as somewhat odd because those games are supposed to be played at neutral sites but clearly Lourdes has a "home" advantage... thoughts?

Just a little FYI, Mankato West has played Red Wing in the section tournament 2 or 3 times in the past. They lost them all pretty bad. But that was back in the days when Red Wing had the Pohls. I am gussing you were probably running around in your diapers back then Scarlethockey33.

While the Rec Center isn't Lourdes home ice, clearly it is advantageous to be playing in your hometown in such a big game(s). However, I just cannot think of a better location-venue for these events.scarlethockey33 wrote:assuming it's the same as last year, semi finals and finals will be played in Rochester does anyone see that as somewhat odd because those games are supposed to be played at neutral sites but clearly Lourdes has a "home" advantage... thoughts?

No worries, I just thought I would offer you a free history lesson because I love your passion for the Scarlets, I am right there with you. FYI Nemanich was the Red Wing coach back in the day when they faced West in sections a few times back in the late 90's.
This game Thursday kind of scares me a little. My gut tells me this is going to be a battle. I just hope the Scarlets can NUTUP and get the job done at home and give me a reason to travel to Rochester on saturday !!
